  1. Before I waste any more blank dvdr disks , i would like to know how to get the best compatability with standalond dvd players.

I am using Verbatim 2 speed minus format dvdr disks

Will burning at 1 speed help ??
I have heard that Record Now Max is the best for compatability is this correct ?

also is there any particular brand of disk that is more compatible ?

one last question would using the plus format give better compatibility as I have a dual format writer the sony dru500a

thanks for your help to these questions

  2. From my experience, compatability has much less to do with your burner and media, and more to do with human error, and old DVD players. I have only used Nero Express, and so I can't comment on what burning prog is the most compatable, but if your DVD player is old, that could be a problem, and I know that when I started out I made a few coasters just because my ifo files hadn't been updated. I guess my advice would be to make sure that you are doing everything else correctly, and for anyone to help you with that, you'd have to explain exactly what you are doing, and with what progs. I seriously doubt that your problem is with burning at 2x. I burn all my movies at atleast 2x and have never had a problem. Also, if your DVD player is older, you probably want to stick with -R because they tend to be more compatable with older standalone DVD players.

  3. i also use nero express and it hasn't given me any problems...

unlike AarontheRipper, i wouln't advise burning at high speeds...at least, don't try to burn the media faster than it's rated.

i burn all my discs at 1X because that's how it's rated...however, i would try burning higher rated discs at 1X until you can fix your problems...

faster burning can cause more problems..or at least exacerbate them.

look up your dvd player here: https://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers and see which formats it supports.... however, i highly doubt that it will play DVD+R and not be able to play DVD-R.

  4. I use verbatim/tdk dvd-rw to try and the same brand dvd-r for burn.

To burn i use instant cd+dvd 6.5 and this settings:

    Data disk (UDF)
    Uncheck Microsoft Joliet
    DVD as disk type
    Check UDF File System 1.02

    And burn

just means you can burn the disc max at 4X, you can burn them at lower speeds if you wish.

video quality wise, there will be NO difference, as it is the exact same data. however, burning errors might occur more frequently because of the faster burn (i.e. greater chance for buffer underruns when burning so fast, etc....)

also, your dvd player may be picky as too how fast you can burn those DVDs..

  8. i made 99 dvd's at this time with these methode's

i use the cheapest dvd's that i can find over here. aprox 2.50 euro each.
    the brand is nashua dvd+r.
the software i use is dvd decryptor and instant copy7.

for single layer. use dvd decrypter iso read to make it region free and use iso write to copy it to the dvd+r.
this works for me 100% never had a coaster except 2 by my own fault.

for two layer. use dvd decryptor in file mode. highlight all file's and copy them to you're harddrive.

then use instant copy to copy it on to a dvd +r_ it takes about 2 hour's .

i have a very cheap stand alone dvd player that works perfectly with these methode's

no dvd copy is 100% compatible with stand alone players.

    dvd+r is about 92 % compatible
    dvd-r is about 89% compatible.

so you can make a perfect copy but it is not always playable on a stand alone player.

but on a pc dvd rom it should play all the time.
the most problems that i know off and read about is with the dvd-r dics

    i write on 2 speed

  9. I love Verbatim CD-Rs BUT when it comes to Verbatim DVD-Rs, my Pioneer DV333 player hates 'em. They burn fine with my Pioneer A05 and play in my Norcent DP300 player....

I always burn at 1x even if the media is rated faster. I had too many problems even burning 4x media at 2x. Burning at 1x, I have no problems....(except for Verbatim in my Pioneer DV333 player)...

The Verbatim CMC-made discs are crap. That may be the problem there.

Otherwise, RecordNOW may not be setup correctly. It can differ on system to system. Give Nero 5.5.10.20 or higher a chance. Use the DVD-Video template (do NOT use the stupid wizard) and burn away.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.
