  1. hey,
I have a region 2 dvd from europe that plays in my new pioneer burner, however it wont play in my panasonic dvd player hooked to the tv. Can I convert it to Mpeg2 or something that it will recognize? I know my dvd player plays almost everything (except region 2). Thanks!

  2. Well you could rip the dvd and make it region free and then burn it onto DVD again. Or you could attempt to find a region free hack for your stand alone. I would check this page for your dvd player and see if it has any hacks available.

  3. yeah, no hacks for my player, already checked. When you say rip and convert, does that happen when I rip or do I have to tell it to be region free or region 1? I have never owned a dvd burner before so I am new. Thanks!

Use a ripping program like DVD Decryptor or Smart Ripper. They will rip the movie to your hard drive region free and decrypt it so you can burn it with your dvd burner.

Do you have a DVD burner?

Remember dvd-5 to dvd-5 is a snap but, if the dvd you are going to copy is a dvd-9 you will need to re-encode so it can fit on a dvd-r.

  5. thanks guys,
yes I do have a dvd burner. Is the software you are referring to freeware? I already took the info off the dvd and transferred it to my HD this is what I now have on the HD. 4 folders:
    AUDIO_TS
    MAC
    PC
    VIDEO_TS
can I do anything with these or should I start over with the programs you are talkn bout? Thanks again for the advice.
PS: its also in PAL format if that makes a difference.

  6. :P The most important thing is the Tv system, the region code change dont work, i assume your DVD zone 2 is PAL if you decrypt this on HD and burn again changing zone to 1 is still PAL.
You need decrypt and reencode the entire VOB data. Try to use dvdtoavi and tempmpg, dvdmaestro or some authoring program.
