I have the 3 Pioneer DVDR 105 and some come with BIOS 1.00, 1.1 and 1.2 or something. Do I need to update the BIOS of these Drives to 1.31 or 1.33 [not sure which one is current] to be able to write at 4X and so far with the exisiting DVDRs I have tried on most DVDRs I CANNOT Write a 4x and lucky to get at 2x ... I got all DVDRs from MeritLine and worst is all outmedia.. theirs I got.. I was able to burn but cannot be read back on any DVD ROMS and only the burner that burned the DVD was fine.

Most current firmware version of Pioneer 105/A05 is 1.33, but I'm not sure that's your problem. I've used 1.30 with great success. Check your media, if 4X and good quality, then there maybe something wrong with your procedure. I use BeAll media from Meritline and RecordNow Max to burn. Works flawlessly.

Go to www.Rima.com or www.meritline.com, click dvd-r, scroll down to the 4x sample pack. Buy that, burn some movies, test it out, then buy in bulk whichever disc worked the best for you. Also make sure you author the disc correctly.
