  1. I have searched the forum and couldnt find any post answering my question concerning any known compatibility issues with the use of sony cd-r media to create (s)vcds. I have recently created a vcd on sony media using the exact same process i used to use wiht my maxell media, however, ironically my sony dvd player seems to give no response. Normally when a cd cannot be read or is incompatible the dvd player displays a message "cannot read cd". Using my sony cd-r though, my sony player doesnt display any message at all, quite ironic and ridiculous that my sony player seems to not be able to read sony media. any information would be nice, thnx.

p.s. the players i have are the sony ns315 and ns325.

  2. Only the very recent Sony's tolerate CD-R's with any reliability.

I have a 525 and find that re-writables work all the time, and the type 8 Princo CD-R's and the ones they make for DataSafe Media (the white topped ones) are also sure-fire winners - they work perfectly.

The problem is that DVD players are designed to read DVD's, and the reflective wavelength is different to that of CD's. They will usually play pressed discs without issue, but CD-R's push the tolerances to the limits and if you don't have dual pickups you're likely to be stuffed.

Do an advanced search for my name and you will find I explained this issue in some depth on a number of occasions. There are a number of factors and just because the CD-R's were made by the same manufacturer means nothing in this instance. I can vouch for Sony CD-R media not playing in the majority of Sony DVD players through personal experience.

As I say, re-writables may be the way to go, or those Type 8 dyes.

    Good luck !
