I saw a similar thread last night, comparing pros and cons of analogue/dv conversion using camera, versus Canopus ADVC. Now has anyone used this JVC VCR for the job? Any sync probs? Otherwise I'll go for the tried and tested Canopus route.

All these devices (camcorders with a passthrough feature, DV-SVHS deck, Canopus) do the exact same thing: an analog to digital conversion. The quality should therefore be similar. I own a Sony TRV-25 digital camcorder and am very happy with it. I am sure that Canopus owners and JVC dual deck owners are equally happy with their product. But among all three, I find the digital camcorder the most versatile because it also allows you to film! It is harder to find a digital camcorder with a passthrough feature in Europe. However, I know that the TRV-25 (with a passthrough feature) is available in Europe.
