Hello,
I an no expert at this stuff but I do like to back up my DVD's and sometimes to make SVCD using DVD2SVCD. My problem is this. I have a Panasonic Home Theater System. Nothing great, I paid about $300 but it works great for me. The problem was that it did not play my SVCD's. I bought a cheapie Apex player and I run it through the Panasoic system as a AUX component and that works great for me. My problem is with my DVD-R that I record. The Apex system plays them great but it does not seem to output Dolby Digital as I only get Dolby Pro Logic showing up on my Panasonic unit that Im running the Apex into. If I take the same DVD disk I backed up and play it in the Panasonic unit, I then get Dolby Digital. Is there a player that I can buy that will play everything. DVD-R, DVD +, VCD and SVCD that I can run through my Panasonic as a AUX unit and get Dolby Digital? Ive been to best buy but they don't seem to be much help. I have checked the DVD player section here but there are too many choices and some say one thing about a player and the next person will say something different. I know a lot of you are experts at this, I hope you can help me. Thanks for any help.

I want to reply to my post to add one more bit of info. The apex player does say Dolby Digital on it. So why is it that when I run it through the Panasonic surround sound receiver that it changes to Dolby Pro Logic but the same disk playing in the Panasonic system says Dolby Digital? Thanks for any help.

Make sure the Apex is outputting in digital (should be in the menu).
And make sure that the AUX on the Panasonic is set to have digital in the input (whether it be optical or co-axial)
Oh, and since the Panasonic is not an amazing piece of HT equipment, you can afford to go cheap on the cables that you get. Best Buy has some cheap Acoustic Research cables that I have heard work just fine. -
he right u have to go in the mene somewhere to change the pcm output to digital
when it come to digital input or output
everything is digital in nature
it it take 5000 feet or miles before the quality degrades
the input DAC does make a difference though
so don't be fooled by manufacturer claim of cheap cables and good cables when it comes to digital
a $5 optical cord works just as good as a $500 one
analog rca cable is a different story though -
Thanks for the help guys. Actually in the Apex setup menu the only sound choice is Dolby Digital. Im almost positive it's the cables im using. I think they are just regular cables I found out in the garage. I will by some of the other kind at Best Buy tomorrow and let you guys know. Thanks again.

Well guys I am using just RCA cables for the sound. I went to Best Buy and bought some coaxial cables. But now I have a new problem. The Apex player does have a coaxial output but the Panasonic SA HT 67 has NO coaxial input? Am I missing something here? All it has is RCA inputs for either a Aux device or VCR device. Am I screwed and just have to accept the fact that I am only going to get Dolby Pro Logic from the Apex player? What is the difference between Pro Logic and Dolby Digital anyway? It just seems to me that my surround sound speakers have more life when Dolby Digital is present. Thanks for any help.

Unless im looking at that part wrong, I dont think it would help me. Does that part convert the coaxial to optical? My surround sound unit does not have a optical input either, just RCA inputs. Is there such a converter for that? Thanks for the help.

from what u just said and reading earlier posts by u
it seem your aux input is rca input not optical input?
you surrund doesn't have optical or coaxial input?
you don't have dolby digital (even if it show up on the dvd player)
unless you have 5.1 rca input on your receiver and 5.1 rca output
on the back of your dvd player and the 6 rca cables hooked up
