  1. I have Panasonic HS2 that I take recorded shows from Directivo and dump to DVD-Ram. From there I copy to my Hard Drive and have been using TMPGenc DVD Author to edit out commercials and such, it's been working great but I would like to be able to build my own menus which this does not really allow me to do. I downloaded DVDLab trial it looks interesting but seems there is no way to remove the commercials just trim the end. I guess what I am really looking for is a way to edit my mpeg/vro file so that I can have it free of unwanted material to bring into DVDLab and create my customer menus. Is there anything out that will allow me to cut video out of the middle of mpeg? I know I can edit form the Panny HS2 but that is rather crude editor. TMPGEnc DVD Author has been working out ok for me BUT the limited supply of menu styles is a drawback.

  2. from my newbie experiences, the only thing i've found is that i have to use many different programs to acheive my end result.

    so far ulead videostudio7 and the regular tmpgenc are what i've been able to use successfully for cutting out commercials. i do my menu authoring with DVDlab as you mentioned. and now i'm looking at nero as a 3rd step to do the actual burning because both DVDlab and videostudio7 seem incapable of burning a 2.5 gig DVD without crashing...?

  3. This is the way I do my captures to dvd.

    1. Capture with WinDvr3
    2. Author and remove commercials with TMPGenc DVD Author
    3. Import the first VOB into DVDLab and join the VOBfiles.
    4. Set Chapter Points
    5 Create Scene Selection Menu and Main Menu.
    6. Compile
    7 Burn

    In your case after you author with TMPgenc DVD Author and remove commercials just import and join the Vobs into DVDlab

    what format does your Panasonic save to?

    if it's giving you vob files, you could use Chopper or ChopperXP to cut the vobs directly, then import your cut vobs into the authoring software of your choice.

    if it gives you mpeg2 files, I would use TMPGenc to cut them.

    I use...

    Capture using VirtualDub,

    Cut out Commercials using VirtualDub,

    Join all Edited Avi's using VirtualDub,

    Encode using either TMPGEnc or DVD2SVCD(setup for DVD Encode)

    Works 100% everytime

  6. Both of ULEAD's video editors - consumer & professional - work with the DVD-RAM discs recorded in Panasonic DMR-HS2 recorders.

    The free trial for MediaStudio Pro 7.0 is located here:

    MediaStudio Pro supports AC-3.

    There is also a 'DVD-VR' tutorial about how to work with the .VRO files recorded by the Panasonic recorders:

  7. Dear all;

    As for Ulead and .vro, I seem to have a lot of trouble with the AC3 sound that is generated from my Panny.

    The TMPGenc Author works much better for me.

    Best;
