Hi Everyone.
I'm looking for a decent video card with the Video-In/Video-Out (VIVO) function. As you all know, there are a lot of copetition out there regarding video cards so I don't reaaly know which ones to buy.
If I am willing to spend around $250, which ones would you people recommend I buy?
Thanks!

3D performance doesn't count towards video capture - not on the Nvidia side anyway
They use the same driver and probably the same video encoding chip
The ATI is a different story though - what model of ATI are you looking at?? -
I'd suggest you get a seperate Video card and a seperate capture card. That way you aren't screwed if one breaks. I'd suggest a 9600Pro + your choice of capture.

Forget the nVidia FX/MX & ATI VIVO,they are crap.Take a look at the ATI All-in-Wonder 7500(I have one and it works great)they are around $130USD and will capture up to 720x480(576 PAL).

I wouldn't buy any MX or FX cards becuz NVIDIA has made some shitty cards lately... The last great NVIDIA card was the Ti 4600. I would get the All in Wonder ATI... Companies who make Video cards for NVIDIA have stopped cuz NVIDIA lied and told people the card were better and faster... the only difference was 8x agp instead of 4x. The chipset was the same. All the rest was the same. ViSionTeK has made video cards for 18 years and stopped making NVIDIA cards when NVIDIA started lying about the speed of their cards to compete with ATi. I guess they thought anyone who would pay 400 - 500 bucks for one was too stupid to know that they where being lied too... If truth be told 8x and 4x agp only looks better on benchmarks but not in real life. Well Maybe 4%. So, in my opinion go with NVIDIA’s older cards like... Ti4200, Ti4400 or the Ti4600. Or the 9700 All in one ATI is a great card.
ps. Dont get the 5600 it sucks ass! -
FOr captureing I would say Yes ATI AIW is now a great card to have for captureing. They do not have audio sync problem with old VHS tape's> I never really talk to much about ATI until now I just tried MMC8.1 there capture software and it great. There is one problem some old NTSC tape's do not display right with the AIW. There is one fix use a world wide VCR I have a samsung but here not cheep around $400.00 dollars. Send the video out as PAL-M or PAL-N then capture at PAL-M or PAL-N. Plus AIW now has a filter to clean up noise. And it work's great. I aslo havea Dazzle 2 and that's also a great card if you want one please go to www.dazzlegeek.com some mother board's it will not work with. Dazzle 2 is hardware ATI is software so you should have a fast PC I have a AMD 1.8 ever thing work's fine MSI board with 266A VIA chipset. Dazzle 2has better sound then ATI but is not good for old VHS tape's. Not to say ATi sound is bad no it good but Dazzle 2is better. If you want a ATI AIW and your not a gamer get the Radeopn 32meg DDR at www.pricewatch.com for $50.00 dollars. If you just want to capture Sallite Dazzle 2 is a great card. ALSO Hauppauge WinTV PVR-350 is said to bea very good card. I find having two capture card's is a plus. When one has a problem with one thing you have another one to use. Dazzle 2 you can download free timer's to cap TV show's. just go to www.dazzlegeek.com. You can get a Dazzle 2 here for a good price http://www.shopharmony.com/ just one thing all capture card's are buggy once yu get the driver's in right you should be fine. So what ever card you get if you have problem just post LOL

The ATI AIW Radeon cards are excellent, but next month games may require a new card (which is retarded BTW).
You can look for an older PCI ATI AIW DDR32 card, but I know of at least one person that had problems with one. And then add some fancy gaming card. And there is no guarantees that the "best" gaming card will cooperate with ANY capture card. Making two cards cooperate can be a hassle.
Again, you're going to have to pick which one is more important. For a situation like yours, the optimal suggestion is to built one system for video, and another for games. Putting them together may work, but you're likely to have hassles, and you'll be making sacrifices on hardware.
And I'm not trying to beat on you, but you first ask about an excellent capture card with TIVO-like functions, AS WELL AS a high-end graphics card to play video games, AND THEN complain about price. Well, you've got to pick what you need. As of right now, you're asking to spend a lot of money with those kinds of requests. Maybe lower your expectations or decide which use can take a hit (video vs video games).I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored. -
All that I'm looking for is a fairly good video card with the VIVO function that is around the $250 price range. I don't really use the VIVO as often as I play games, but when I do use it I want to be able to output some fairly good quality videos.
The only card that I found so far that kinda satisfy my needs is the MSI GeForce FX 5600 VTDR128. I just want to make sure that I'm not getting ripped off because its not fun playing around with $300.
I would consider any suggestions you people give me. -
The 5600 isn't really a good graphics chipset. The performance it offers really doesn't match its value. You could spend around $330 for a AIW 9700 non-pro card. The graphics part is superior to the 5600. Or if you can wait, get a Ti4200 with VIVO(~130). The card should be good for at least a year and a half. By then newer faster cards will be out, and you'll have more money by then.

The 5600 is inferior to 9700 in gaming yes.
The 5600 is not a bad card at all, far from it. They have a new revision out since its first release. Nvidia made a few mistakes which made it take longer with the release of their cards as well as sticking w/128bit memory bus but they are on track for mid/high range cards now. And will be with future card releases. Late for the FX release? yes. but its there now and dissing nvidia could only be done by lookin in the past. EDIT : GeForce FX5600 Ultra rev2 Reviewed @ HEXUS.net
$195.99 GAINWARD GeForce FX 5600 256 MB with VIVO
How much was your MSI you found?
As for what to get. If you have your eyes set on VIVO then go with it. Even a GeForce4 TI will beable to play doom3 and HL2 comfortably just not with all the detail but I would still suggest getting a dx9 card. ATI AIW cards are great as well...great quality captures, dont over look them. -

If I am to buy the FX5600, should I go for the MSI brand or the one made by Gainward?
The one by Gainward has 256MB, but has a less value bundle, doesn't come with a Remote Control, and I believe it has a quite noisy fan too.
The MSI brand has 128MB, but has a more valuable bundle (11CD), comes with a Remote Control, and has a more quieter fan.
The price is about the same:
MSI - $264 CND
Gainward - $279 CND
I don't know which one to buy, could some one help me?
Thanks! -
I've got a video/capture card that works fantastic. It's the ATI 64mb ddr VIVO. It's a miracle card with great gaming enhancements. A year and a half ago it was $250 Canadian, now, I think it's $80. If you check the capture cards on the left hand side, you'll see how everybody was pleasantly surprised with this thing.....
Give it a try, seriously...... -
I recently got an eVGA Nvidia 5200 FX Ultra and like it a lot. I don't use it for capture though. I agree with what most peole here say, keep you video card and your capture card separate!
If I am to buy the FX5600, should I go for the MSI brand or the one made by Gainward? -
I would also get the MSI simply because it cost less and seems to have more features with your VIVO although Gainward does make better quality 3d cards (OCing, great performance at default speeds, stable).
If you look at benchmarks from any site, comparing the TI4200 and the 5600 Ultra, you'll see that the 5600 Ultra nearly gets out performed in every benchmark without AA enabled
I'm not saying its a bad card. I'm saying the price tag on it isn't worth its performance. -
Since the GeForce FX5600 Ultra (old and New) has the same name, how would I know which one I have?
I really want the New GeForce FX5600 because I surely out performs the Radeon 9600 pro.
Where can I get the GeForce FX5600 Ultra New version? -
With motherboards they keep them labeled different. "MSI KT400 rev2.0 vs MSI KT400"
Video Card details like that are not really known. Where did you see the MSI card? -

If that was not the New version, then how about this one:

The new GeForce FX 5600 has a core clock of 400mhz. And I believe it's memory is clocked at 400(800). Whether or not these include the VIVO feature I do not know.
Look at the middle of this page.
EDIT : btw nvidia has signed with its partners differently now. They are allowed to change the clock of the card differently than its spec. Ive seen some old 5600 cards that are sposed to be clocked at 350mhz core but they were at 325mhz or the memory is lowered to 300(600) from 350(700). I looked around and at all the places that listed detailed info like clock speeds. All were the old 5600, none of them were the new one. Makes me wonder just how new this 5600 revision is. -
How does the ATI AIW 9000 PRO 128MB compare with the FX5600? I don't know if I should go with ATI or nVidia.
Does ATI make better capture cards than nVidia? -

Then between the ATI AIW9000 Pro and the MSI GeForce FX5600, which one would you pick?
-
The AIW 9000 is better for captureing, but the graphics chipset is outdated. It will play most of the current games, but not at the best graphics levels. The 5600 Ultra is better for gaming, but the capturing isn't great. So it is a double edged sword. I don't understand why you say getting a seperate video and capture card would be to expensive. There are some good quality capturing cards that are around $50. That never needs to get changed. If you are an avid gamer, you'd probably have to change your graphics card every two years.
-
Between the Gainward Ultra /780XP 8X AGP 256Mb DDR VIVO Professional Retail and the MSI GeForce FX5600-VTDR128 , which one would you pick?
-
Same as i said up above.
Video capture I would think they would be the same for either one.
Look what comes with the cards.
The gainward card wins hands down in 3d performance though. (higher core/memory clock speeds) -
You might want to check this out, looks cool!
