It all started about 5 years ago when a married a crazy German… (don’t do that btw, sucks the life right outa ya)… As you might expect, we get DVD’s from the In-Laws all the time for the kinders (kiddies)… I have tried several methods of converting PAL to NTSC with varied success. On the cartoon DVD’s, pretty much anything worked, but know that they are growing into crazy Germans themselves (clearly from the mothers side) the DVD’s are more like “Mr Roger” except its “Her Clink” or something…
I’ve tired several methods with a little success but you can still see the glitches… the most promising method I have tried is:
1.) DVD2AVI load the VOB’s and save as a project
2.) Then use TMPGEnc to load the d2v and audio files and select the North America DVD template for the output.
After several labors hours I get a 4 GB mpg file with awesome video quality and sound… only problem is that it’s out of sink… so what I need is a little clear expert advice, on what I am doing wrong with this method or some other method that will have high quality….
And for any one else out there in the same boat I offer the following three pieces for advise
1.) Don’t marry a German.
2.) Don’t have kids
3.) Just say no to European DVD’s
Just kidding about the first two... or just don’t tell my wife….

3.Never have and I doubt I ever will but I do like European beer.

You can import the VOB files directly into neoDVD (may need nedDVDPlus under $50) and reauthor the DVDs by specifying NTSC as the output. I did that with UK/PAL dvds and it worked pretty well. Only problem is sometimes the video/audio would stay out of sync (on average like 1/4 of the time I had imported) If you do DVDRW first, you can redo the VOBS that need resync and then do DVDR when you are sure it all is working.

If you juust convert them without selecting the Do not framerate conversion, then set it todo 29.97 fps without pulldown it'll repeat the necessary frames and playback in full sync! also, since it's so laborous for you (I have almost OCed my comp to a real-time TMPGEnc power-monkey!), try MainConcept or CCE. I hear they're not bad

I have an Apex 1100W and Mintek 1600, hacked them easily, play PAL discs all the time. Regions don't matter. Players only $40 each. Live in the USA.
Did this after I started buying more PAL discs than I could spend time converting.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)
