  1. Hello all.

I've just purchased a hp 100i burner and have begun playing around with ripping and burning dvd+rw (wont do dvd+r but that's ok 4 me). I've already foollwed some of the guides at this site using dvd9to5 using dvdShrink (https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/141024.php#dvd9dvdshrink) and suggested softwares and burned it as a dvd video using nero. The burned dvd worked perfectly on my jvc xv-n44 but not on my toshiba sd4700.

I then tried manually following the steps for formatting in both udf 1.02 and 1.05 as outlined here and again, it works for the jvc but not for the toshiba.

a main sitcking point i think is with the fact that under the Burn tab in nero, the "Finalize DVD (no further writing possible!)" option has been greyed out. Why is this? I think this might be a problem but for the life of me i cant figure out why nero is locking this out on me. Could it be my dvd burner? I should be able to finalize a dvd+RW. this used to be a problem with cd-rw playing on the same toshiba till I ticked the Finalize option. Why cant i do so now for dvd??

if anyone has any experience using these hardware and software or can offer any adivice, please do so. I'd much appreciate it.

Ps. I'm using the most current version of Nero and memorex dvd+rw media.

  2. i dont think the dvd+r(w) standard requires finalizing

  3. Yeah, finalisng means the disk can no longer be written to (added to) afterwards. Therefore it is at odds with the +RW standard, because RW means RE-writable.

Not sure what you mean when you say that you cannot successfully burn +R disks on the drive, though..

    Arky ;o)

  4. thanks for the response.

I thought we still had to finalize a disk even tho it was an rw. I seem to remember having this option availible and ticking it (on) when burning a cd-rw with mp3. the disc had to be finalized in order to be playable in my dvd player. but that was a while ago and i might be mistaken.

as to my playback problem, i tried burning the rw dvd using primo as suggested in some other threads and it worked fine in both my toshiba and jvc players. still dont know why nero will work in one but not the other? is this the software or the player?

    thakns for the input.

  5. nero has long been known for its compatiblity issues when burning dvd's.. you've gotta go in and mess with setting..

prassi/recordnow is pretty simple.. i use it for almost all of my dvd burning.
