  1. Hi All,
I have sent my broken Sony 510 away and am waiting hopefully for a refund. I am now thinking I want another dvd writer. I have narrowed it down to an NEC 1300 or another Sony 510. Seeing as the Sony 510 broke on me after 3 weeks I am thinking the NEC. The only trouble is I spoke to this guy at a computer shop near to me and he said that it could be my system that broke my sony 510. Is that possible? I can not see how my computer could have done this too my dvd writer. So this has put a spanner in the works for the moment. Do I risk getting the NEC and then find that it was my system all along? Or do I just forget all about it and be content with my CD Writer?
Another thing. Dabs.com where I brought my Sony 510 from at saying on their website that they are getting another 10000 odd drives into stock. I would really like the Sony but I don't want another broken drive.

    Dam Technology.

  2. I dont see how your PC could mechanically break it, but you could mess it up if you screwed around with the firmware.

  3. I didn't do anything with the firmware so it couldn't of been my computer at fault. I am going to try another one and see how that goes.

  4. I'm on my second Sony drive after the first one went belly up after 200 or so burns. I would have bought any dual format drive except another Sony had they been available at the time. The new Sony is hanging in so far but I sure don't have that warm and fuzzy feeling like I did with the first one.

  5. That is what I am worried about. Seeing as the Sony 510 is the top of the range model you can't really go down to another model. It would be like driving an aston martin and then a robin reliant. Not the same really is it. I can't see that Dabs would order in 10000 if they all had a fault. I am just hoping the new one will be ok cos I have 20 datawrites waiting to be written on.
