    Any opinions about his new recorder?

    Record DVD+RW & DVD+R & HD80GB
    Also plays DVD-R DVD-RW !!

  2. Some people say Philips encoding is not the best. I would wait for review's on it. It does not say it does DVD-R I thought Philips was going to put DVD-R in there new players

    What do you mean, record on DVD-R?
    (never heard of that?)

    it can play DVD-R, see 1715.PDF in that link

    They don't mention VHS to DVD though.
    Is that because it's logical that you can do that or could we expect bad quality?

  4. "Kedas" about two or three month ago Philips payed the www.dvdforum.org for the right's to add in DVD-R in there machine's make there DVD recorder's burn both DVD+R and DVD-R.

    Ah, I didn't know but seeing DVD-R recorders from Philips so soon after is very optimistic. (I guess at least a year developing cycle)

    It doesn't matter for me, I only have DVD+R/RW disc with my PC burner.
    if it's capable of playing those DVD-R/RW disc that's enough for me.
    (I can burn to DVD-R if needed)

    If you want both then Sony will be your only way out.

    The best about DVD+R/RW is no finalisation or very short one.

    I checked with my local store and they will have the HDRW720 begin June for 799Euro. 1.5months from now.

    PC DVD burners, yes. Standalone DVD recorders, no.
