Ok, I've been looking around now for sometime and see that each DVD that is written / burned has a 'Book Type' or 'Disc Category' that states DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD+R, etc.
I also see that some standalones need DVD+R(W) to be identified as DVD-ROM for them to be played properly and that some DVD burners can be fooled by using Bit Setting programs while others cannot (specifically SONY and NEC multi-format ones). Similarly NERO includes these settings, but again some burners don't recognise them.
My question / point is this:
DVD burning software allows you to specify whether you are burning DVD-ROM, DVD-Video, etc. Therefore, surely it follows that the 'Book Type' must be stored somewhere in the image that is burned to the disc. If so it must be possible to change this either in the burner OR in a disc image (e.g. produced by Imgtools or similar).
Does anyone know how to do this? Does DVDDecrypter or Imgtools, etc. allow this. What about 'backed up' DVDs, when is the disc type determined - on burning?
Any help would be most grateful as a friend of mine is having problems reading DVD+R discs on his standalone.
