I have a Sony DRU-500a DVD writer, which I also use for writing CDRs. Recently it started failing to write my TDK blanks (Feurio reports power calibration errors). So I picked up some Ritek blanks, and I get the same problem. I have a small stash of older TDK blanks that seem to work fine, but the failures with the newer ones started about halfway through a batch of 100, which makes me suspect a change in the drive rather than the media.
DVD writing works fine so far, but I don't do it nearly as often as CD writing.
I bought the drive last year around the time they came out. I haven't updated firmware or anything (I searched and couldn't find any).
I'm stumped. Any suggestions?
John

i suspect its your firware causing the problem. upgrade to 2.0f you can get it here
http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/dru500adwn.htm
scroll down to bottom of page .... its says firmware upgrade 2.0f.... just click on the "download updater" a new page will open with a license agreement ... scroll to bottom and click submit and a download dialogue window will open select save to disk and when download is complete run the program (make sure you read the instructions first)
