  1. I HAVE SOME DIVX MOVIES THAT ARE 640x224 and 640x352. I want to convert those movies to SVCD, but I want those movies to have the same quality as if they were in DIVX. Would SVCD lower the image quality on those movies or will they look the same if they were in VCD format since the source is not DVD? I know converting them to VCD would lower the image quality. In otherwords, should I convert those movies to VCD or SVCD? Can someone please help me.

  2. You can do this by using DVD2SVCD,

Theres an option that lets you use DVD or AVI files. Here is the guide on Doom9.

    http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvd2svcd-avi.htm

Its pretty simple, and works well (as long as your using Cinema Craft Encoder).

For best results use SVCD (480x480) or CVD (352x480). Both are mpeg2 format files, CVD being basically an SVCD with a little lower resolution. Many people swear that CVD gives better results but it really depends on what bitrate you choose to encode (and maybe the source as well). VCD is an inferior format and does not compare. I'd recommend doing a few tests and deciding for yourself what resolution and bitrate suits you best, make sure to use an action scene for a better comparison.
