Does anyone think there's hope of upgrading/modding older players (I have a Panasonic RV-32 and love it!) to support DivX?
Any thoughts? Any grapevine news??

No.
An MPEG2 decoder does something totally different than a DIVX decoder.
The DVD player would have to have an actual DIVX decoder in order to play DIVX files.
