So I'm trying out Main Concept.

I take a ... particular movie, which is in PAL SVCD format.

    So it's 480x576, 25fps, sound at 44khz.

I set it to convert to NTSC DVD, which is:

720x480, 29.97fps, sound at 48khz (Mpeg LayerII encoded)

It takes 56 minutes on my machine (Athlon XP 1800+ w/768MB on a SiS 745).

So I fire up TMPGEnc to do the same thing...

    1hr 57min

    !!!!!

    QUE?!?!?

Am I really only getting half the quality, or is Main Concept THAT MUCH FASTER? I understand the quality might be slightly less, but let's face it - I'm upsampling from a questionably good source, so who CARES when it only takes half the time?

  2. actually your getting only 2 times the quality. with mainconcept its an inverse relationship. the faster the better because the programs better.

dig a large hole with a spoon....dig with a shovel......

Ones faster because one is better.....

Remember,....people who work longer are not working harder....they are just working longer.

  5. typo..sorry....I meant 1.3...typed fast and didnt proofread.

So that encoder will convert Divx encoded 25fps PAL movie file to a 29.997 NTSC movie file?

Yeah, but I have to say its PAL->NTSC was NOT the best.

I'm gonna try preconverting PAL->NTSC and then letting it do SVCD->DVD and see how that comes out.

  7. So any suggestions on what program to use for a PAL to NTSC conversion?

  8. To convert from an AVI PAL to DVD NTSC 29.97 i framserve from TMPG to CCE using VFAPI, it works great. You get the best of both worlds TMPG GUI and CCE speed Also when you use Mainconcept to convert 25.00 FPS to 29.97 FPS the video will stop playing near the end of the movie but the audio will continue to play, this is a well known bug. TMPG will do the same conversion with no problems, it's just slow.

  10. mainconcept is faster,
    no doubt about that.

but the qulity is not that good (only my opinion)

tmpeg will produce a better looking mpeg at a given bitrate.

an encoder is not all about speed,
so you cant just say its faster so its better.

do a short clip and see for yourself,

what i have HEARD is that mainconcept is better when it comes to
    dv sources.
but i dont own a dv camera, so i cant confirm.
HELL AINT A BAD PLACE TO BE

    bf6239,

This sounds like a great idea. However, in my experience CCE is just SO obtuse and difficult to use that it pisses me off.
