Made a SVCD using Ulead DVD MF, approximately every second, the video skips backward a few frames, this happens for the entire length of the 40 minute video.
Here's how I made it.
DV camera to Philips DVDR985 on +RW disc, so 2 unencrypted VOB files. Recorded at SP level, full D1. Transfer the vobs to PC hard drive.
Used Vobedit to join the vobs.
Used Tmpgenc to demux the vob to get m2v + ac3 files.
Used besweet to transcode ac3 to mp3
Used Tmpgenc to remux the m2v + mp3 into an mpeg file.
Played the mpeg in WMP, entire file played fine.
Loaded the mpeg in MF, picked SVCD. File played fine in the preview window. Final file size showed about 800MB at default bitrate setting. Didn't want to mode 2/overburn the cdr, so I reduced the bitrate to vbr 2450 max, which gave a file size of slightly under 700MB.
Burned the image, then a CD. Result is problem stated above in several players I tried. I pulled the mpeg file from the SVCD and played it in WMP, same thing happened, so definitely not a player issue, but an issue with the MF rendered mpeg file.
Any ideas of what the problem might be?
(I've made a few svcds this way and they have turned out ok until this one. I could just go back and use tmpgenc to do the mpeg encoding and simply use MF to burn the SVCD, but I'd like to avoid buying tmpgenc after the 30 day trial since MF should work. I could also capture DV directly to the PC via 1394, but I'd like to avoid the huge avi file size 40 minutes of video would produce.)

If you plan to view the SVCD on a standard non-progressive TV then make sure the video file is interlaced through out your entire process. Also make the field order the Same through out the entire process. I Capture at interlaced / field order A. Then render/convert/author with the same settings. I have seen sometimes with TMPGenc where it wants to start with Field order B. I too use Ulead MF2 to Auther VCD and DVD's.
