  1. My current Apex DVD player supports DVD-R's but doesn't play them back when I rip out the menus and or use DVDShrink to compress it all to one DVD-R. I was wondering who has a DVD player that will play back movies compressed to one DVD-R because I am just going to give my Apex to my mom and buy a new one.....

  2. I would hazard a guess that when you "rip out" stuff from the disc you're ripping out something important and therefore making the disc unplayable. It's easily done !

If I'm doing movie only, I tend to rip the relevant VOB and IFO files and use IFOedit to strip off anything I don't need, then rebuild the IFO files and VTS Vectors.

Then, if it's still a bit big, I usually use DVD2ONE to knock it down to size and then burn.

I have used DVDShrink but with mixed results - if you try re-authoring with it and don't know what you're doing, you could quite easily of butchered it - in which case changing the player will not help.

  3. Yep, I think Garry's right. But there's something else I'd advise you: just to to your local Best Buy and try out your disk on various machines. They are very helpful there, and have no problems letting you do this.

You should do this with *any* new machine you buy (or at least have rock solid return priviledges, like Best Buy or Walmart). That way you don't have to worry if things don't work.
