  1. Hello everyone. First of all thanks to all whose info I have read over the past few months in getting my DVD system running.

Now, I am encoding captured VHS video (MotionJPEG through a Miro DC-30 PAL card). The encoding works a treat in that everything goes without a hitch.

HOWEVER, on fast movement (eg a pan or zoom) I notice a curving wavey pattern through linear objects. (This kinda resembles the scooby-doo transition when they peice all the clues together). This stops the moment the pan stops. It is anoying to watch so any help in how I can get rid of this would be very helpful.

Am I correct in assuming it has something to do with Matrices and or motion estimation settings?

Thanks muchly for any tips any of you may have.

You should try to post a sample, so we can see what your describing.

  3. And describe your Main Concept settings -- the default settings for high usually work just fine without fooling with anything more advanced.

Also you might try posting on the MC support board -- their guys frequent that board hourly and always respond right away very helpfully.

  4. Footage with fast and complex spatial and temporal movements is hard to deal with, even on film. I don't think you can do much about it, except increasing bitrate. It might help a little, but not much. If you want it to be like as clear as it was shot by a high-speed camera, forget about it.

Agree with MrKGB. Try Tempgen or CCE using 2-pass VBR. It will do a better job of allocating bit rate to these high motion scenes. MC only does a single pass, so that the estimates for needed bit rates is not as precise as a 2-pass encoder.
