    Hi,

I used to use Ulead Picture show 1 to product VCD slideshows that played on my Toshiba SD210E DVD player.

Now I use Picture Show 2 and take the "DVD" option (not VCD) and set up the slideshows and burn them to DVD-R media.

When I play on my SD210E it plays fine except NO SOUND. The TV is a new Toshiba 36" connected by coax and composite cables. Press the sound button on TV and get an error message about an invalid digital sound input or something....

I also have a phillips DVD75R DVD recorder. If I play the DVD-R in that it works fine and I get the sound, however I can only get to the first 46 slideshows on the DVD, it seems to hit a maximum then.

So on DVD player I get no sound, and on DVD recorder I get half of disc.

I can fix the problem on the DVD recorder by recording to 2 discs!

What I really want to know is what is wrong with the sound on the DVD-R that prevents it playing on a normal is slightly old DVD player???

    All help gratefuly received!

  2. Check the audio output options in your DVD player's setup. Try different output settings. Sorry I don't know which exact setting, I don't know your DVD player.

Just to double check, you are talking about checking the sound output options on the Toshiba SD210E desktop dvd player?

  4. Ulead DVD PictureShow 2 outputs MPEG AUDIO.

Support for MPEG AUDIO by NTSC DVD players is not mandatory - it's only "optional."

Consequently, some older model NTSC DVD players will not play MPEG AUDIO.

(Support for LPCM AUDIO and AC-3 AUDIO by NTSC DVD players is mandatory.)

It is possible the Toshiba model does not support MPEG AUDIO.

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply, I just checked, the sound output options are "Bitstream" "analogue 2 channel" and "PCM". It was set to Bitstream. I live in the UK so it is a PAL DVD player.

Funny thing is that Picture show 1 wrote great VCD's that played fine on same unit. Are Picture Show 1 VCD's a different audio format than Pictureshow 2's DVD output?

Would this kind of very technical information be on an online manual or something somewhere?

All my audio files are common and garden wv files, nothing fancy. Never had another problem with sound at all, quite bemused about this.

Anyone know if Pictureshow 1 DVD writing uses the same type of sound? I shall probably have a go and see, but I have to rekey the entire slideshow as pictureshow 1 and 2 appear incompatible, plus the DVD-R discs are too expensive to keep wasting!

    Thanks

  8. If you mean WINDOWS MEDIA VIDEO (.WMV) files, please know - depending on the amount of compression applied - these files can be problematic.

Usually, the best results follow use of .WAV files.

I suspect it is this problem with mpeg audio. I don't know what this is, but I just noticed on my pinnacle video editing software that making a dvd has mpeg audio has an option. If you don't select it I don't know what audio it uses? but presumably this is standard dvd audio and that is presumably all that my Toshiba sd210 can play.

If this is true I am surprised that pictureshow 2 does not have the option to use standard dvd audio

  12. In PAL countries, the MPEG AUDIO *is* standard DVD audio in that all PAL DVD players are required to support it.

Most newer NTSC players will play MPEG AUDIO.

There are three types of DVD disc audio:

    - MPEG AUDIO (small file size; compressed)

    - LPCM AUDIO (large file size; uncompressed)

    - AC-3 AUDIO (small file size; compressed)

Thanks Jerry, unfortunately that just makes things worse!

If my Toshiba SD210E purchased in the UK clearly supports MPEG Audio, and Pictureshow 2 outputs MPEG Audio and my slideshows produced on DVD-R will not play the sound on the toshiba because it says it is an unsupported format, even though it plays the same disc fine on a Phillips DVDR75 connected to the same TV I am sadly at a complete loss what the problem is or how to fix it!!!

Hopefully a stupid question, it isn't likely to mae a difference if I use a different make of DVD-R media is it???

    Thanks

  14. I wish I were geographically closer as I would be very interested to inspect the audio file on your disc.

Could you explain where and how you obtained the .WAV source file?

I suspect the MPEG encoder may have stumbled during creation of the disc.

Perhaps there is something unique about the source .WAV file that might explain the problem.

    Jerry,

I think it's something simpler than that.

I have a .WAV file on each slideshow, so 68 of them, they are just basic music tracks from standard CD's, saved as .WAV files using Easy CD creator 5 platinum.

As the sound plays fine on the disc on the phillips DVDR75 and I have previously used these same .WAV files with Ulead Picture show 1 to produce the same slideshows but saved to 3 X VCD and they played the music fine on the Toshiba SD210E I am left with the conclusion that there is some strange incompatability somewhere.

I am going to have another go and use a DVD+R instead of DVD-R disc, I have a multi burner so can do both.

Thanks for all suggestions anyway. Am quite fascinated now to work out what it could be?

I have fixed the problem - but not in a helpful way!

I have given up and gone back to putting my stills onto VCD using Ulead Picture show 2, basically it does a better job with VCD's than it appears (to me) to do with DVD.

I can get about 2-3,000 pics on a single CD, it plays in everyones DVD player, I get sound and the media are cheap...

I am using DVD for video work, but given up for stills.

    Thanks all

  17. The .WAV files from CD discs feature a 44khz audio sampling rate.

Ulead DVD PictureShow 2's encoder will attempt to re-encode such .WAV files to feature a DVD-compliant 48khz audio sampling rate.

I have heard reports of incompatibility issues on computer systems where Easy CD Creator 5.0 and Ulead software are installed.

I do have easy CD creator 5 platinum, and that is the tool I use to copy the .WAV files from CD in the first place. Do you think this is the problem. Perhaps just copying the .WAV files from CD using another tool like Real audio will avoid the problem?

    Thanks for help
