4x puts me in DVD heaven.

OK, I've been ripping and making backups for about 2 months now. I have a Sony DRU500AX, so I can use just about any media. My previous preference has been Fuji +R. It has always been extremely reliable and fairly priced. And, it burns at 2.4x.

Up until now, I have avoided 4x media because I honestly felt that, from everything I had read, 4x was either unreliable or overpriced. Yesterday I went to Target after reading a post here about TDK 4x media being on sale. Still skeptical about 4x, I only purchased a 20 pack at 29.95. Turned out to be a great deal for $1.50 a disk. I will return later today for at least 3 more packs.

Yes, 4x is where its at. I feel like I found the holy grail of DVD burning. 15 minutes for a full 4.xx. What more can one ask for? (Except perhaps for 8x somewhere down the road).

As an adjunct, let me add the following:
A) My Sony 500AX works flawlessly. Never had a single coaster. Firmware ver. 2.0e
B) I use DVD Shrink to rip and encode, and Nero Express to burn. Have done about 40 DVD's this way and never a problem.
C) For info purposes, I have an AMD 2100+, 2 HDDs 80+100gb. And I run XP SP1.
D) Everything plays on my Panasonic S35.

From what I have read, many of you out there are having problems with the same hardware/software combinations I have. Perhaps I am lucky, but if I can assist anyone, just let me know and I will try to help.

I feel your joy...bought the last four packs at my local target myself. Work great for XBOX games, movies, etc. 14 mins can't be beat....ok well not until 8X comes out but that'll be quite awhile.

My local Target only had 2 packs of the 4x TDK's left , but that's better than nothing. Assuming they are the same media as the pack I bought at Circuit City a few weeks ago, they are great with the Sony burner (I'm on firmware 2.0f). FYI, the Verbatim 4X appear to be the same media (at least in my area), however the TDK's have a nicer label side, IMHO.

Yes I too took Target up on their deal. Bought 4 packs. Also Best Buy had 50 pack of Fujis on sale for $74.99. My Sony 500AX burns great too. Glad to see you are having good results.
