I saw a similar topic, but it dealt with AVI files, so I'm asking in a new topic for clarity. I have MPG files, converted from DVR-MS files, where the audio is consistently 1-2 seconds later than the video. It doesn't appear to be a gradual thing, as far as I can tell - the audio remains off by the same interval throughout the file. Is there any way to fix this?

As an aside, seeing the mentions of AVI everywhere, is AVI a better format than MPG? I considered AVI, but I think the converter I tried at first had bad AVI support, so I just went to MPG for simplicity.

    avi is a container.
there are many formats you can put in an avi.
what are your plans for the video file?

optimally you'd demux mpeg2 and the audio from the dvr-ms
what did you 'convert' with? how long did it take?
used to be a program called dvrtompg. m$ probably locked down on it.
you could probably find it, ,if you looked hard enough

anyway i have no contact with dvr-ms

As suggested see if the original files are insynch. If they are then you should reconvert them.

I would recommend using directshowdump it works with the type of files you are working on. You need the .net framework installed for it to work - it is free from microsoft.

I use it to strip my tivo fles off my tivo into ready to use mpg files. The transfer is pretty quick.

At this point, I'm just watching recorded TV files on my computer. I may wish to burn to DVD later, however.

DVRMStoMPEGGUI; however, I realized that that's not the issue after finding a few source files I thought I'd deleted. The problem is that when I delete commercials manually using Avidemux, that gap is added. Since it's not a gradual delay, but a steady delay from beginning to end, I'm pretty sure it can't be an incorrect FPS.

if you've got the original files, get hold of VideoReDo Plus. an excellant program for stipping out commercials, frame accurate editing, and in you case stream fixing. to automatically fix stream errors that cause conversion programs to put the audio out of sync
