  1. I have just upgrades from 1.31 to 1.40 2x4all but when I try to burn at 2x on Ritek G03 media I get a Power calibration error and the write fails although the disk has not been ruined. I am using Nero 5.5.10.15.

  2. I had this with some cheap white top media I bought. If I changed to 1X they then worked. This did not effect all disks, some burn't fine at 2X although play back was a problem on some of them.

Now I buy DATASAFE Classics and they write at 2X and play back on almost anything. Really compatible.

It's nothing to do with the firmware as far as I know. Before the disk is wriiten it does a calibration test. Maybe the meadia is weak in the area its testing.

  3. Try going back to official firmware and see if it makes any odds - you could have been unlucky with media, but my 04 gets on well with those Ritek's and I've never had any problems with them - and I've used quite a few.

There are several hacked firmwares out there, and they are not all created equal. If you must use hacked firmware, try another one and see if things improve. Personally I do not advocate hacked firmware for recorders, there is often good reason why they are not "official" and they do not suit everybody.

Plus it invalidates any warranty you may have had on the drive.

If you need region free, it's always best to buy a cheapo DVD-ROM and flash that. Plus it saves wear and tear on the recorder. I say set the burn off and go and do some thing less boring (than watching the screen shouting "come on !!") instead...

  4. Thanks for the replies guys.
When using firmware 1.31 it will burn at 2X but i usually get problems towards the end of the disc freezing etc.
I have now changed back to 1.41 and went out today and bought a 105 and used the hacked firmware 1.33 which is working fine at 2X so I guess the problem is not with the discs.
