MPEG4 [.AVI] (ffmpeg) source format

What input can be used with the Video codec MPEG4 [.AVI] (ffmpeg)?

I am receiving the following error with an NTSC VIDEO_TS input.

/Users/xxxxxxxx/Desktop/xxxxxxxx/VIDEO_TS: Unknown format

I'm curious to see the speed of this codec as i have till now used the MPEG4 [.AVI] (mencoder) codec.

ffmpeg codec doesn't support VIDEO_TS input, use VOB input instead.

Another Question if you dont mind, can the ffmpeg video codec accept cropping? I'm receiving this error.

Vertical crop dimensions are outside the range of the original image.
Remember to crop first and scale second.

It accepts cropping, but the values must be specified in a specific top-bottom-left-right format.

I'm still receiving the same error.

for mencoder i enter my crop value as follows in the filters tab

720 (right?) 360 (bottom?) 0 (left?) 58 (top?)

so following your suggestion of top-bottom-left-right i entered

58 360 0 720

But still no joy...

No, you should enter how many black pixels you want at the top, then how many black pixels you want at the bottom, then how many black pixels you want at left, then how many black pixels you want at right.
