  1. I ripped a DVD onto my hard drive today for the first time. Now, I cannot view it for some reason because it says I do not have DVD player capabilities or something earlier. Now I try to play the file and it boots up windows media player but nothing happens.

I am trying to figure all this out before I get the DVD burner, I want to get going right when I get it.

  2. You need to buy either PowerDVD or WinDVD software (I prefer PowerDVD). I don't think there are any freeware software DVD players but hey I could be wrong. Whatever brand of DVD burner you buy will come with one or the other program unless you purchess an OEM burner.

BTW you should have had a DVD player program with your DVD drive unless you just didn't install the program.

  3. There are freeware DVD players. If you look under tools Maxius(sp) is one. It use to have a link to a freeware MPEG2 codec, but it seems like the linke is down?!

  4. My dads computer crashed last week so he had to zap the computer and start all over. So, I am guessing the dvd software was zapped as well. That must be the problem.
