It's not that no one is using 105's. It's more likely many are using 2x4all and others rather than that OEM S**t. I did not have much use for the OEM f/w but the hack f/w has worked very well for me, brought the 105 to life.

  5. I'm still using the same firmware that my DVR-105 came with... Version 1.00. The firmware check utility that I just downloaded today tells me that I have the most current verson. I don't know... I know I've read about V 1.30 and the ability to burn some 1x media at 2x... but I've also read about the compataiblity loss with cheap medis. I have never, I mean never! burned a coaster yet with any DVD media I use... including the very cheapest I can buy from allmediaoutlet.com So, I am a little more the reluctant to upgrade... Have you had any problesm from any firmware upgrades?

Same here. The 1.00 it came with works fine. Not a coaster or media incompatibility error to date.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

I have a 105 but since I use the hacked firmware to burn 2x on Riteks I'll wait before upgrading. BTW the compatibility problems were not caused by the hacked firmware, and I've not had any problems myself.

  11. Personally I will wait until the firmware gods at www.rpc1.com have come up with a hacked version of 1.33. I use the 1.30 w/o rip speed limit, w/o RPC2 region limt and w. the capability to burn all 1x discs at 2x. THIS was and is a major upgrade value for the Pio-105. Just be patient. Gradius already has posted a version for Ritek G03 and Lead Data. Within the near future >NIL: will surely expand that to 2x4 all.

  12. Sorry, I must be way behind in my DVDR news...

Could someone please give me a link to this "hacked" firmware that allows the burning at 2x speeds on 1x speed discs?

I'm either blind, or I'm having a lot of trouble finding it myself

    Thanks.

  13. The hacked firmware has been released now, here is the link:

    http://pioneerdvd.rpc1.org/DVR-105%20v1.33%20-%20RPC-1%20+%202xDVD-R%20+%2012xRip.zip

    This patch includes:
    - RPC-1 (region Free)
    - 2x4all DVD-R's
    - 12xrip for pressed DVD's (no rip speed limitation)
    - patched upgdvd.exe that doesn't force you to downgrade or to flash a non RPC-1 firmware (when flashing from windows. DOS mode has not been patched)

    Thanks Boxingjunkie

There is a hacked firmware for the 104 here:
    http://homepage.ntlworld.com/sccs.ltd/pioneer2x4all/v140_a04.zip

It the latest v1.40 Pioneer firmware but hacked to be region code free and also allows you to burn 2x on 1x disks.

  16. I installed the hacked firmware, and wrote a dvd @2x with zero defects 1x ritek generation 3 media. Wrote fine and recorded surface looks fine, but disc is a coaster. Is this the right media to use?

    cheers

  17. Hmm, not sure, I have burned quite a few DVD's with the hacked 105 firmware and haven't had any problems, even on the el-cheapo disks. At least not anymore than I would have.

  18. I have the CenDyne/Pioneer DVR-105, I upgraded my firmware from v1.0 to v1.30. I don't notice ANY difference... I does the same as before, it works. The drive is a 4X burner, but in NERO4, it still shows 1X or 2X..? Is it NERO thats the problem? Because I don't get the 4X burn speed option.

    Thanks
