I've been backing up my movies on my iMac using DVD2One and Toast, and it's been going fine.... but I'm using Apple's DVD-R discs - but are more expensive than the cheapest ones available (AU$5.80. The cheapest one is AU$2.60 ).
My question - are the cheap one's more prone to stuffing up? Are they just as good? I figure if they're like the difference between CD-Rs, then I might as well use the cheaper ones. I've never had a cheap CD-R that is broken. What about long term though? Like 5 or 10 years from now.

The lower quality disc are in fact lower quality, however some of them are very useable. If you read around on the forums you'll see what people have good output with such at Ritek G03 (which would only burn at 1x on your drive since you have an apple specific firmware) As well as others that burn at various speeds with various quality.
Other known good brands are Optodisc seems to be ok, Apple of course, Verbatim Data Life PLUS, among others.
Also try the DVD Media link on the left hand bar to see what others have to say.
Remember your drive is a Pioneer even though it has an apple firmware. Also make sure its update with any software apple puts out there. -
Yeah, it's actually a Sony (Sony DVD RW DW-U10A). They only used Pioneer's on the 15-inch range.
The "DVD Media" page will be most helpful.
Thanks.
