What firmware are you using as I've got a dvr-104 as well but I'm using hacked firmware as I wasn't happy with pioneers. It also allows me to burn any disk at 2speed.It can be found here http://kickme.to/dvd105s

    Alternatively you can try this:
HOW TO BURN A MORE COMPATIBLE DVD WITH NERO (DVD-ROM UDF/ISO)

    1.open nero and close wizard
    2.in new compilation choose DVD(obvious),dvd-rom(udf/iso)
3.under iso tab choose only iso level1 and iso9660 (tick these boxes, leave others blank)
4.under udf tab tick the force compatibility mode box and this greys out the physical
    partition portion(this is ok)
5.hit the new button at the left hand side and drag and drop your VIDEO_TS and
AUDIO_TS(empty folder) to your new compilation
6.hit the burn button and when the dialogue box appears(to set write speed etc) hit write.
7.YOU should now have a disk that should play on your set top dvd player.
WHEN I DO THIS I CAN GET THE DISKS I DO TO PLAY ON MANY SET TOP BOXES AND PS2'S.
THE ONLY TIME I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED PROBS IS WITH PLAYERS THAT AREN'T MULTI-REGION.

Hope this helps as it's expensive making coasters!!!

Don't think a firmware update is gonna fix this specfic problem...

Is this burner installed internal? Check and make sure your using PIO mode for it. If not turn it on.

PIO Mode is a method of ACCESSING your burner that your motherboard system uses.
The PIO mode has been upgraded to a Direct Menory Access (orDMA) mode.
This accesses the drive faster than the PIO mode.
The way to change the mode is different depending on which WINDOWS os you run
WinXP is normally very good at setting DMA for ATAPI devices. The only case that it does not turn on DMA for your drive is when the controller or/and the drive is not supporting DMA.
But for 98 and 2000 there are very differnt ways of accessesing the settings.
My favorite metod for engaging DMA mode in Win2000 or 98 however, is a good cheat. I install or execute for the first time the "SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS" program that installs when you install POWER DVD XP edition. This provides a checkmark box for each CD or DVDV device detected and engages the fastest DMA mode upon reboot. Then it confirms or denys achievement of this mode.
(Quicker than trying to figgure ourt whether your drive is aattached as a master or slave if you've forgotten)

WHY PIO mode ? Mine has and always has been set to dma mode as recommended.I only ever had trouble when using official firmware and it wasn't until I got the hacked 2forall firmware that I stopped getting problems. The guy who made it says that when he examined the official one he found at least 2 errors in it,Pioneer deny this of course. His one is based on the official one with a couple of fixes etc.

If DMA is achievable it is almost alway desireable.
However...their are problem systems that can never achieve DMA on certain peripherals due to obscure conficts between (obviously) untested combinations.
If you cannot achieve DMA (the fastest way to accesss the Burner) then PIO mode is the way to go. When people have problems with their burner (CD or DVD) TECH support will always suggect disabling DMA as one of the possible solutions to conflict or freezing problems

Thanx for the explanation,I know what you mean regarding conflicts.Just glad i don't have any.I suppose I'm just lucky to have come across that firmware which obviously suits me.

  9. Try burning at 1x speed. Most DVD-r's are only 1x, there is a hack that allows the 104 to burn all media at 2x, but without it you should only burn things at 1x

    mmlock,

I've got a 105 and haven't seen the problem yet. However, I used to see this on my CD burner only if I had other processes running on the system while I was burning. And, even if I did get the message (usually on the lead-out) the disks still played fine.
    Have a good one,

    neomaine

This started a week ago, randomly using either the latest Nero or via dual boot EZCD Creator 5 in ISO mode the DVD writing software says writing completed with no errors but approx the last 5 minutes of the video are not written to the DVD. One can see this by looking at the disc. If I burn again, it most likely will complete. Whole disc looks written to. Using name brand TDK 2x DVD-R media.
Maybe the laser is turning off due to overheating. No error msgs anywhere. Live in humid climate and humid weather just started last week. When AC on and room dry, seems to work fine, if warm with humidity unit fails. Have fan on computer but does not affect result.
Standard store version Compaq Presario 6000 Athlon w Windows XP.
Bought last Sept, have burned many DVD videos successfully without any problems until last Sunday.
Problem seems to be independent of OS and writing software, thus I conclude the drive is failing.

    YOU SAY?
well I betch WINXP has thrwn all yer software for a loop!

Please try the following before you get out-of-sorts 'bout this!
    REMOVE NERO..
    reboot
REINSTALL a slighly different version of NERO if you can
or A NEW BURNING application would be even bettter...say
PRASSI will recognize the AO4 with the updated ENGINE I believe

NOW this is because I believe SOMETING in the OS is preventing
THE BURNER FROM being accessed correctly!

    Good Luck!
