Hello,
I'm a newbie but already been reading this forums about captuirng, converting for almost 2 months now. Anyway, as everybody is doing, i'm also doing some VHS to XVCD conversion (I have no plans on using svcd and dvd). . I've been doing a lot of trial and error already, but I can seems to find the best matching, until I finally almost found the correct solution. I tried using the software that comes with my Sony TRV50, and I am using my DV cam as a passthrough to capture my VHS tapes. The capture from Ulead Videostudio seems to be the best I found compared to using DVIO, movie maker, pixela, as well as the ATI analog capture. During ulead setup, where you will select what type of template you will be using for capture, I choose DV NTSC 720x480 format, and the attribute says that the field type is field A.
Now here's the problem, after capturing a sample movie, I encoded the DV avi file to TMPGenc (mpeg1) using 720x480 resolution and 2600Mbps, and under advance tab where you will specify the field type, since I saw from the Ulead config that it use field A, I then selected field A, but using the technique on how to find out what field should you use, it turns our that the field must be field B not A. So I change it to field B, and then encode. Then burn to cdrw, play in on my TV, and output is just like when testing what field type you will use on TMPGenc...meaning the picture are jerky , moving back and forth...not smooth. I then tried using Field A, but the result is still the same. I can only make it smooth if, I choose field B, and enable deinterlace with Even-Odd (field) or any of the Double setting. And also by changing the resolution to 352x240, field B with no deinterlace.
Now you might say, that;s because vcd don't support 720x480 or something else (btw choosing progresive (non-interlace) on tmpgenc does not work either), but then If I convert the DV avi file from Ulead Videostudio itself as mpeg1 with field type --> Frame Base. I don't get those problem, but if I choose either Field A or B, I 'm experiencing a combing effect.
So here's my question, I don't want to use Ulead Videostudio for mpeg1 encoding as it can only allow me up to 2Mbps bit rate, so in TMPgenc, what is the equivalent settings for a Frame-Based field type in Ulead? Any idea?
Also, adding noise reduction will make the video blurred even if it's only 10 -1-10 settings, so as much as possible I'd like to encode the avi files to mpeg1 without any additional filters just selecting a higher bitrate and finding out the equivalent of frame-based on tmpgenc is fine with me.
My basic settings for my TMPgenc in case u ask is:
Mpeg1 (non-standard VCD)
CBR --> 2600
720x480
Audio BR--> 192
Field Type B
I knew that my bitrate and resolution is not a standard for a MPEG1, but it's working fine for me. I just need to know what's Framed-base and equivalent setups for TMPGenc.
Many thanks in advance...
