  1. I have an E30 and when recording in 2 hour mode, I successfully finish a 85 minute recording. The process has including starting and stopping 5 times, and then the final finishing process.

Then, when testing on another player; a brand new RCA unit (I'm not sure of model#) and another unit too. It plays until near the end. It starts chopping and then altogether freezes.

This has happened on different media (Khypermedia and Maxell DVD-R).

My theory is this. If the KBPS rate is high enough, is it possible that the Panasonic E30 is getting to near 'full' disk use (4.7GB) and it allows the disk to finish, but the other machines can't read the data near the end of the disk?

This idea comes to me from my PC compiling. If I use 6000 VBR (with 7000 as max.), I can only get about 70-80 minutes of video compiled to a DVD-R with my computer.

    What do you think?

  2. Is there a recording mode setting? Change it from Auto to fixed & see if that makes it better. Someone mentioned that on another forum but I forgot the exact specs.

ALso could be heat so make sure its NOT in an entertainment center & the fan in back has enough room to work.

I agree it sounds like bad media, try using a better brand of disk and see if it stops.

  5. Both Khypermedia AND Maxell are bad for the E30?

The maxell's came in their own jewel cases, so rule out cake box damage.

Should I go for the Apple DVD-r or Pioneer DVD-R?

You had problems with Maxells??? I thought they were the very top DVD-R media for the Panasonic. Apple DVD-R and Maxell are the same media. Pioneer media is supposedly come to an end in production. That leaves you with Verbatim (who are now CMC), TDK (probably the most reliable brand I currently know of), and Maxell. I just tried one of the new Verbatim DVD-Rs and it seemed to do OK. Again, You Had Problems With Maxells? I just bought a 10PK (hmm...I wonder if it should be exchanged/returned?).

  7. I use merritlines own brnad of DVD-R's and never had one fail yet and I record them to the full max the panasonic will allow, use to use ritek's but had too many disc failures because of defective disks and yes finger prints or any slight foreign material will make any DVDR skip, lockup or pixelate, keep the record side spotless.

I've quite a few brands and found TDK the best and most stable and the maxell the worst.

I've tried Accu and it is cheap and works in the same manner.

I've tried Opti disks as well and they work sometimes.

I've tried several others from meritline and most of them are not consistant. The real tests are when you try them out in other players.

I admit I thought Accu was great until I bought 2 new dvd players and found they had trouble playing. Yet every disk I've created using TDK has played in every player I put them in.

I believe you get what you pay for.
