Is Mac the best for video editing, caputring, etc...? and can I upgrade it like a normal PC?

If your talking about capturing DV from your miniDV camera; Yes it is the best system.
And also for editing afterwards.
In theory PC's are able to do about the same, but this is just in theory... There are always stupid errors between camera, FireWire card and PC... On a mac it always works!

If you want to capture analog video and your camera does not have an analog-in; No, because the best non-professional Video-In cards are not available for mac.

You can't upgrade an iMac as easily as an ordinary PC but a PowerMac is maybe even easier (but more expensive).

I just bought a G4 with a superdrive this weekend, and it only took my about six hours to create a really good DVD, with motion menus/buttons and slideshows. I used iMovie and iDVD. Previously I was using Premiere and that has alot more features than iMovie. But iMovie is great at what features it does have. I you have used a complicated NLE such as Premiere, and you like the amount of control that it gives you, then you probably won't be happy with iMovie and Final Cut is a few hundred dollars more expensive than Premiere.
If all you want is straight forward video editing, and DVD creation, then Apple is the way to go.
