Hi, I don't own a Mac but I saw one with double monitors working in Comp USA, It had Final Cut Pro installed, I saw wonders with that program, I also loved the iDVD program with its great menu templates. But what I did not see was:
#1 How to export proyects into DVD Compliant MPEG2 files.
#2 how to rip a VOB file from a DVD and load it into iMovie or Final Cut for editing.
Can anyone that has experience on MAC tell me about these 2 questions?
One final question: Is there a PC program with similar 3D (slideshow) menu templates as the MAC iDVD ones?
Thanks!

Moving you to our mac forum section and you might get better help from mac users.

#1 The software component called 'Compressor' takes care of that.
#2 Convert the ripped DVD to DV, then import into the editing app. Many QuickTime formats can also be read, but will be converted to DV on import anyway. -
#1 Can the conversion from VOB to DV creates artifact or sync problems?
#2 can I demux a VOB into elementary Video and add various audio tracks? then create the dvd using the demuxed video and audio?
thanks -
If you have FCP installed, you have the MPEG2 component; otherwise you will need the MPEG2 component (which you may purchase from Apple for about $20-30).
Then use MPEG Streamclip (freeware) which will do many useful things.
"VOB>DV; artifacts?" No more so than any demuxing/decompressing.
"demux to streams, then create..." You might need DVD Studio Pro or some other authoring app which permits multiple audio streams.
Others will be sure to chime in. Be patient. -
Also check out Cinematize 2 at www.miraizon.com for exporting from a VIDEO_TS to DV. I sometimes use it instead of MPEG Streamclip.

You then set commands via buttons and GOPs
to enable/disable tracks, such as having Japanese audio play
for The Main video, or enabling the user to select
between compressed AC3 or higher quality AIFF soundtracks.
Once that is done, you simply create your menu either using the
defined templates in DVD Studio Pro, or adapt/modify one to create
your own. DVDSP has a bit of a learning curve, but if
you learn FCP first, DVDSP will be easier to pick up."Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."
