Whats the best DVD player I can buy???

I download alot of movies and just started learning how to make vcds, I would like to watch these movies from a dvd player.
I did check the rating system for dvds on the site but, I found that one person will say a sertain dvd player is great the other person says its shit.

Which is the best dvd player I can get with the least amount of problems?

I have the best luck with the RCA 5240p. played everything I have put in the player.

krell DVD player (standard or deluxe) $8000 and $10,000 is about the best (and heavy weight)

the pioneer rp82 which i have is rated almost as good in many respects and is only about $400

it's really a compromise buying a dvd player these day. there really no one player that do everything well, so if i were u i'd get a couple of them for a compromise

i did what u are doing now a few months ago

i already have a ps2 (no mp3 or vcd) and a $2200 pioneer dv-09 that plays the best picture in the world for regular dvd, but the picture sometimes get stuck on burnt dvds and it don't play mp3s

i went shopping and promptly return about 12 dvd players

the super cheap ones plays everything but have horrible picture quality and are just subject to breaking easy and they don't last very long and have issues when it get to the transition of the second layer part of the movie

the mid price one show better picture but usually don't play all the formats and some of them have issues at the second layer too

the high end one have the best picture and go the the 2nd layer seamlessly, but they might only play one or two other formats

i had brought a GE that seems to do everything right, but one night i just turn it off to go to bed, and the next day it just wouldn't come back on

finally i quit looking for the perfect dvd player. there wasn't one

then one day i walk in a pawn shop and i see a toshiba 5 disc
sd-2805. i knew the guy that work there and he let me take it home for a couple of days to see if i like it.

well it had a great picture, played everthing i threw at it, it is region free and has no second layer issues (It didn't play dvd-mp3s though, but 95% of the dvd players on the market can't do that)

i brought it for $100.

the verdict isn't out yet on if it will last, but i'm betting it will

since then,the toshiba has locked up on me twice (doing nothing when i push any button). i unplug it and plug it back in, then it works fine

Depending what you are going to do?

If you want to have high quality pictures, buy name brand like SONY, JVC and etc.

If you want to have high quality pictures and play PAL discs, buy JVC.

If you want to play multi-region or/and PAL discs, buy low brand like Daewoo, Akai, Apex and etc. because their region code can be hacked.

If you want to play severely scratched discs, buy Daewoo and Akai.

Want I want the dvd player for is to play vcds that I made from my computer.
I want to download movies from other people and make them in vcds.
Then watch them on my dvd player with NOOOO problems.

what do you think of the xbox? i heard it was the best for this?

I just picked up a Samsung C631 5 disc changer with progressive scan for only $89.99 at Best Buy last night. The normal price was $119.99 and it dropped down $30. I tested out all of my DVDs including....DVD+R, +RW, -R, -RW.......and all of them played flawlessly (so far). Pretty good quality at a great price that plays everything that I threw at it so far. I haven't tested out my mp3's yet, but i'll probably do that tonight.
