  1. I noticed that when using the logo filter in Virtualdub you can select when your logos will appear. The logoaway filter doesn't have a built in way to do this. How can I wipe out something on the screen without doing for the whole clip?

I use logoaway to hide DVD motion menu selections that won't be backed up (I'm sure you could've figured that out). It's a drag when you can see the logoaway filter thoughout the intro of a menu when it's not necessary.

I don't want to render out different clips and join them later because I'm frameserving the menu all at once to TMPG. Joining mpegs is usually a drag.(especially mpeg2)

Any ideas? I heard about AVISynth but I haven't got a clue how to write a script. Any AVISynth geeks err.....enthusiasts out there want to help me?
    Happy to be here.

I don't know of any similar filter in avisynth, but I'm sure there is one.

But if you want to still use VirtualDub its not that difficult. Don't render each segment to mpg and then join, just cut it into parts and keep it as uncompressed avi. Process the part that needs the logo removing, then load all the parts into VirtualDub and frameserve. For most dvd menu's this only requires a few gigs worth of hard drive space.

  3. Thanks Adam

I was just hoping to skip that intermediate step of creating temporary avi chunks.

I don't know of any similar filter in avisynth, but I'm sure there is one.
I thought that if you are using AVISynth and Virtualdub, couldn't you load the Vdub filters with the AVISynth script? I thought that there might be a way to do the selective application of the Logoaway filter through AVISynth. You know, create a list of segments of the menu (the menu is a dvd2avi project, can this be part of an AVISynth script?) like frame 1 to 345, then apply the filter for frames 346 to 1222 or something like that. This way I could do it all in one go.

    Maybe?

Hard drive space is a little tight for me. Got a lot of crap stored.

Here's a link to a post on the same topic with a sample avisynth script: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=155308

  6. Wow, thanks!

Exactly what I was looking for. Now I'll have to learn some AVISynth syntax to understand how the heck that script works, but I can sort of see how it's done.

    Thanks Zippyp!
