this is a really newbie question, but i'm really confused w/ the concept of 2 formats for dvds.
lets say my buddy made a dvd using his dvd-r burner. now i want to make a copy of said dvd, but i own a dvd+r burner. can i make a copy even though they are different formats?

You want to make a copy of his copy or a copy of the orignal? Anyway it doesn't matter since the answer is yes. Yes you can make a copy of a DVD-R disc with your DVD+R burner. I use both formats and do it all the time. BTW most newer DVD players now will playback both formats.
