  1. I ahve been reading comments about the Xbox on this site, and half the people say it CAN play VCDs and SVCDs, while the other half say it CANNOT. Who is telling the truth?

I bought my PAL version at the launch date down here (March 13th) and tested both VCD & SVCD, which both didn't play.
However, if you get your Xbox modified you can have (S)(X)VCD support, as well as DivX & Xvid! If you want some in-depth info check out: www.xboxhacker.net

  3. you could always try burning a svcd onto cd-rw, that might work

  4. So can it play SVCDs without being modded, if the right type of media (CDRW) is used?

no thats pretty stupid burning it on a cd-r or cd-rw wont make any difference. you either need it modded or burn it on a DVD-R

  9. Ive had my xbox since January 1, 2002 (i know its bad) and i had it modified when the 1st generation modchips came out. And to answer your question YES xbox can play SVCD/Vcd/divx/xvid or whatever you throw at it. Only 1 problem though, Xbox's werent desiged to read cdr's, so i play my burned svcd files though my network using xbox media player, i just simpliy share my pc-dvdrom with my xbox and every thing is peachy keen. LOL i always wanted to say that.

  10. I think you've missed the point somewhat...

An XBOX out of the box or with any official software/hardware upgrades cannot play VCD or SVCD.

Older ones have issues. I'm in the used-Xbox market myself right now, looking for a good one to pick up in the future, and that's a common fact I've run across. So I'm having to be careful to look at serials and model numbers.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

how do use hook an xbox up to a network? do u have to sign up for the online package to get it to do that?

can i transfer my mp3 from my pc to the xbox?

or do it have to be modded to do both of these things

  15. Well from testing the waters as of late, i found haviing an older model xbox will save you some time, and headaches if you plan on doing the modding yourself. The Version 1.1's with the Sharp TSOP is a B**CH to mod. That was the last xbox i modded, it scared me away and took my nerve from modding any other boxes. To answer vance43211's question, hooking an xbox up to a network is fairly simple, if you have 1 xbox and a nic on your pc, simply use a crossover cable. If you have a hub/swtich/router simply use a normal cat5. To answer your second question no you do not have to sign up to do this unless you are referring to Microsofts new Xbox music maker (total rip off of the xbox media player, but hey it was developed using an illegal XDK, so what goes around comes around i guess, if not they would have a pretty nice case against $Ms) No, you do not have to transfer the mp3's to yoiur xbox's hard drive, they can be streamed from your computers hd using the network. And finnaly yes, you do have to have a modded box to use this. If i were You i would google XBMP, or Xbox Media Player. it might not get you the software, but it can get you some good info for it.

  16. I am confused:
    1. Are we able to burn Xbox games by our DVD burner?
    2. Are we able to modify Xbox by ourselves?
    Please advise,

    1. Yes, you can burn backups. But you need to mod yoru XBOX to play them.

    2. Yes, but that may depend on your competency with electronics work.
