I live in UK and my son in US wants some home video and cartoons from TV transferred onto DVD to view in his Xbox.

These DVDs would be authored region-free.

Can anyone who owns a US Xbox confirm any of the following:

    - does an Xbox accept LPCM audio? (I am currently authoring lpcm for him instead of mp2 for PAL discs I make for myself, thinking that was correct.)

    - will a US Xbox play PAL version discs - made with LPCM OR AC3 audio if neccessary? (I have read claims on sites that say as long as the region is correct - or "0" -, that Xbox plays both formats. This would save me loads of conversion time, if it's true!)

Thanks in advance for any help.

The X-BOX will not play pal encoded DVD files
but more importantly EVERY few thousand X-BOXES are different..
Many have differing DVD-ROM drives inside so its a crap shoot..do a test and send him that first....
but it may handle PCM audio on an NTSC title

    Thanks for the reply, dcsos.

I did read through each of the Xbox player comments and searched and read up on every spec, review, etc. site I could find. Just still have not seen mention of th LPCM factor. And I've read so many comments that contradict each other.

I understand your point on each box differing.

I'm hoping someone can confirm that LPCM works on their particular box to keep test discs, postage fees and timeframe to a minimum.

    Thanks again.

    So if you can't test,
RE ENCODE to NTSC with MPEG audio if you can't do .ac3 at home and it'll play in any of 'em
    DON"T use DVD+R ....use -R

  5. You can make ANY X-Box play both NTSC and PAL DVDs, and make it region-free as well. Just install a mod chip and put DVD-X version 2 on it (and XBox Media Player if you want to play .mpg, .mpeg, divX, .avi, etc.) and you're all set.
