I found an article describing what Centrino technology really is. I've been wondering for myself, since those Intel commercials came out. I wasn't able to find a good article until this one. Some of you may already know exactly what Centrino is. For the rest of you, enjoy.

Turns out that it's not all hype and that the Pentium M chips are like AMD and Apple's chips, which process more information at lower clock speeds. I thought that it was just an integrated wifi card this whole time.

Why Intel, which has millions to spend on advertising, doesn't just say this in plain english is beyond me.

  2. The Centrino is actually a very good processor / platform -- especially from a low power/portibility point of view.

I don't doubt the quality of the Centrino branded package. I just wonder why they don't spell out exactly what Centrino is. I was confused about the technology involved, so I assumed that it was just an integrated wireless card and integrated bluetooth.

I didn't know that the processor is actually different from the mobile Pentium 4. It would make better marketing sense to explain why the Centrino platform is "better," than to just come out with those cool commercials with the guy sitting at his desk in the middle of the desert.
