Just wondering if anyone seen the 2 for 1 15-pack dvd-r Verbatim deal at Office Depot this weekend. I heard somewhere that there are cheaper Verbatim discs being made out there that arent as good as the normal EXPENSIVE ones. Anyone know of any truth to this?

Verbatims are the only brand I buy. I have tried other brands and I don't like to take my chances on my DVD's I spend so much time on. I always Buy Verbatim DATALIFE PLUS brand. The best place I have found for these are at buy.com
Link #1 is for the 15 pack(Spindle) for 27.37 + Cali Tax+ shipping.
http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10341371&hdwt=32102&loc=101
I just bought 3 15 packs , and the Total with Cali Tax and Shipping was 99 Dollars, Thats 2.20 each disk.
Or you can buy the 10 pack with the Jewel Case for 26.77, this qualifies for free shipping. So cost for me per pack with Cali tax is 29.00 per 10 pack. 2.90 a peice.

I have Burned over 100 DVD's with these, and have found that they are the most compatible. I was for a while buying only Apple media, but at 5 dollars a disc, it was too much.
If someone knows of any other place on the Net that sells Verbatim Datalife Plus DVD-Rs cheaper, then please e-mail me.
Hope this post helps out.

2x apple disk are only about 3 dollars each btw. Changed a while back when they switched to Maxell. I've had great luck with the verbatiums also, as far as CMC the only disk from them I've used was a Khypermedia, it was a single test disk and seemed ok. Yesterday I purchased 20 of them at Microcenter for $20 on sale, even if they turn out to only be good for data its still a good deal. That aside if you speak to Pioneer and ask what brands they suggest one they mention is CMC, so I figure I'll give the disk a spin and see how they work for me.

interesting there is a problem with "CMC" VERBATIM disks...if someone would link a post..i'd like to read that...the last 30 Verbatim DVD-R disks I purchased months ago were all CMC corp...and ALL play flawlessly from beginning to end...just like my beloved ACCU's...interesting that "CMC" is considered worse or cheaper...because these Verbatim disks I just got for a little more then $1 a piece with this deal are ALL MITSU.....I could honestly give a crap whether one is better then the other.....because the only thing these MITSU disks can do is burn and play PERFECTLY....which would be no better then my other 30 CMC Verbatim disks.....what a deal though...I gotta admit!

BTW as noted in another thread CMC is a brand that Pioneer will suggest you use if you ask them.

Yes I saw the ad in this morning paper. Left the house so fast I forgot to put my shoes on. Went in bought my authorized one per customer. Walked out, went back in did the same thing over. Went back in the afternoon for one more trip. Sat down tonight and looked over my supply, now I have 600 to burn. Verbatims are great, no complaints and at just over $1.30 each they can run that sale again. Going back each day until Sunday. Life is great

Could someone pretty please post the media code on those cheap verbatims?

Mine are all 2.4X and ALL four packs say DataLife Plus, but one of the 4 packs
says made in Taiwan. The other three say made in Singapore...
I guess the Taiwan = CMC?
Singapore = Mitsubishi? -
I just got 30 Verbatim DataLife Plus 1-4x disks from Office Depot for $32.77. The buy one get one free deal originally had only the 2.4x disks, but I waited a couple of days and now they are selling the 4x.
They must have been flushing out the old inventory first and now have the new disks in. COOL! -
Some people are saying that the 4X, which are only DataLife (not DataLife
Plus) and are made in Taiwan, are worse than the 2.4X DataLife PLus made in Singapore
Note that some 2.4X are DataLife Plus, but are made in Taiwan.
I am not sure if I should try to exchange my 4X for 2.4X, or exchange my 2.4X for 4X. (I got a few of each speed). -
I don't guess I see the issue. I have used both DataLife and DataLifePlus disks and see not difference.
What problems are others experiencing? Is it the burnability of the disks, longevity?
Thanks, -

can anyone confirm whether or not Office Depot still had this buy one get one free deal going on? I would really like to get a few more spindles at that price, if possible...anyone get this deal yesterday or today? Or was it just for the weekend?
-
The offer runs until the next ad comes out which will be Sunday, so you still have a couple of days to pick some up, if you can find them in stock. I picked up a couple of spindles on Sunday, but they have been going out as soon as they put them on the floor. I spoke to one of the manager and see told me that all of the areas stores are selling out as fast as they come in. Apparently, the word is out and the buying frenzy is on. This is a great deal regardless of who is making the discs.

The discs are only 1x and fail in hacked 2x drives at about 25%. Not worth too much more than $1, so the deal isn't that amazing. Just nice to be able to go to the corner store instead of mail-orders in bulk. I only needed 25, so this was convenient. I've got the CMC discs. Cannot find the Mitsu ones at any of the 4 stores I went to.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored. -
I got in on this deal . Got me some 2X -R discs . The print on mine reads Verbatim Datalife . DVD Info says they are made by Ritek . GO3's .
-
FYI I was in CompUSA today and they have their brand DVD-R now at a regular price of ten for $15 (last week they were on sale for ten pack for $10). These are very good discs for me and burn at 2x on my Sony 500ax burner. I have burned about 110 of these so far.

The Office Depot I went to had only one Verbatim DVD-R spindle left, which they sold to me at half price. The disks are CMC. I only burned one and it had minor pixelation/stuttering problems on my Panasonic RV-31. The code on these disks is:
00 42 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 50 00 02 87 0D 12 .B...@....P.....

I also bought a 25 pack of Memorex 4X media at BestBuy for $50 which is CMC. The only disk I have used from that spindle performed flawlessly. The code on these disks is:

tomasine17, thanks for the post. I never get the Sunday paper unless it's before BIG sale events like the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas. I don't know what the quality is like on these new Verbatims, but I got 2 packs. They only had 3 left. I hope there is no compatibility issues with the Panasonic DMR-E30. Of course the ones I got were the Datalife (not Datalife plus) eventhough the disc still stick to the same title.

And if so, should I stick with DataLife 2.4X OR 4X, and/or the DataLife Plus 2.4X made in Singapore (but not the DataLife Plus 4X)?
As for which to keep, the 2.4X or the 4X, you didn't mention wether they were the DataLife 2.4X and 4X, or the DataLife Plus 2.4X and 4X, and wether or not they were made in Singapore or Taiwan.
Personally, I would keep the 4X, but only if they were made in Singapore, or the 2.4X, wether or not they were made in Singapore or Taiwan.
You could of course go the other route, and spend you free time trying to get laid.I don't have a bad attitude...
Life has a bad attitude! -
The Verbatim disks I purchased burn @ 2x with my bad azz Sony burner...and burn ohh...sooo smoothly.....as for the ones who can only burn @ 1x with the Verbatim disks...well....as we say down here...you either got "ganked" or need to get a Real burner! I'll be pickin' up some more of these MITSUBISHI VERBATIM @ 2X disks tomorrow!.....what a Steal...almost literally!

I have been buying the verbatuims datalife plus 30 packs (+R) at sams now for over 2 months for $49.87 and none have failed and all play in any DVD player I put them in, been through about 8-10 30 packs now.
