    Well ...

As a work-around you can just rip the movie to your computer's HDD using DVD Decrypter. It will allow you to rip any region DVD regardless of the region set on the DVD drive in the computer.

Of course when you rip the DVD it removes all region code info along with copy protection. So you can just play the rip from the HDD using a software DVD player such as PowerDVD.

Just make sure to rip in FILE mode and select ALL FILES when you use DVD Decrypter.

This will give you the full contents of the disc so when you play it back it will be just like playing back the original with all menus and chapter points and no loss in quality.

  6. vance43211 i'm using Gordian Knot so I used SmartRipper, I managed to go around that lock using dvd region-free. tho its a trial so it wont last for long.

FulciLives, DVD Decrypter will load the Vob's no matter what the region is? cause SmartRipper wont till I play it on a player.
but basiclly what I want to do is to convert it to Divx or VCD cause I don't have that many space on the HD.
but i'm having a lot of problems during the encoding.

so after I rip the Vob files the next step is use DVD2AVI? adding subtitles if I want and then compress it to divx am I right? (btw nice pic )

oh and another thing I was wondering about...I have 2 comps connected on a local network, the dvd is on the other comp and my comp is faster so I was trying somehow to play with the dvd on my comp so I could rip ext...is it possible? cause I tryed to make the dvd drive availible for sharing and it became a network driver on my comp but for example DVD Decrypter wont recognize it as a dvd drive but I think SmartRipper did but it was region locked I think.

Try using DVD Region Free. Instead of the program trying to make your drive region free....it tricks the whatever player you are using (power dvd, etc.) into believing the disc itself is region free.

I was unable to unlock my dvd drive and this program works for me. The drive is still set to region one but I can play any region through the software without having to mess around with the drive itself.

DVD Decrypter will rip any DVD disc regardless of the region of the disc and the region of the DVD-ROM drive you are using. If you use FILE mode or even ISO mode then it should automatically remove the region code (and copy protection) so working with it on your HDD will not be a problem.

I have no experience with networking computers together. If you can't get that to work (rip from computer A to computer B's HDD) then I guess you could always rip to computer A (the one with the DVD-ROM drive) and then copy the ripped DIRECTORY FILE FOLDER over the network to computer B but that means computer A would still have to have enough free HDD space to hold the rip in the first place.

    P.S.
As for the DivX process you would run DVD2AVI on the ripped VOB files to get your D2V project file and your extracted AC-3 audio file(s). Then I use GORDIAN KNOT which will load the D2V file. Lately I've been using GORDIAN KNOT just to help me create the avisynth AVS script then I load it directly into VirtualDub to process although the newest GORDIAN KNOT now completely supports the newest version of DivX so you could just use GORDIAN KNOT all the way though I would not let GORDIAN KNOT mux the video and audio for you IF you will be using the original AC-3 audio. For that I would use the program AVIMUX (which you can download from the DOOM9 website. However if you will be using GORDIAN KNOT to convert your AC-3 to MP3 then you don't have to worry about the muxing process.

u need an aspi layer for smartripper and dvd decrypter to work (thats was the reason smartripper wouldn't unlock your files and u needed a dvd player to do it)

and yes u can control one dvd from another computer on a network (after u rip the movie with smartripper it will be region free which mean it will play anywhere)

i'll find that aspi layer for u

sorry, i had to find the cd that i had this on

Where can I get aspi32 drivers for Windows?
Nero's ASPI driver from Ahead Software.

For Windows NT4, Windows 2000 and Windows XP:
Download ftp://ftp6.nero.com/wnaspi32.dll. Copy wnaspi32.dll to the %windir%\System32 folder or to your application directory (no need for reboot).

    For Windows 95/98/ME:
Download ftp://ftp6.nero.com/NeroASPIen.exe and read the readme.txt file.

if it ask u to overwright the file, click yes

More info can be found on Nero's download page.

  11. take a look at this site
    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=1&manufactor=31

you will see that there are 2 firmwares that can make your dvd region free.
after you flash it, check with "drive info" if it is realy region free.
if it is, you can use "dvd region killer" to change the region to what you want, its free and it works.

    i hope this helps
