  1. I select DATA, put in my files, click on burn.....and immediately get a message "Job terminated with errors". It does not burn anything to the disc.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I am doing wrong here? I can burn with DVD Decryptor fine.

  2. Yes !

How do you get you VOB files to a burnable state ?

I only ask as I use DVD Decrypter in file mode then use the same VIDEO_TS folder and a empty AUDIO_TS folder into RNM (total file size uder 4472mb) and it reports same errors.

But if you run the VIDEO_TS folder through DVD2 One it remaps the ifo and VOB files to include the BUP file and then burns fine with RNM(with some quality loss, but I carnt see it).

On the other hand NERO will accept your origonal VIDEO_ts folder and burn it (never tried due to NERO's conflicts with standalone players)

    Hope it helps .

  3. I used to do this with my old Pioneer DVD burner all the time without problems. I cannot figure this one out.

So, what you are saying is that you cannot use RecordNow DX to do a data dvd with your Sony DRU500? It's the friggin software that came with the drive!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If that is the case, Sony can have their drive back.

I have exactly the same problem with you, rhupertgee.

After burning more than 200 disks, over the past 5 months, with numerous and silly problems with Nero, I reverted to RecordNowDX, which has eliminated all problems. Until this week.

I normally buy TDK -R media. Stores have ran out of them now, and I tried a Sentinel -R disk. It worked fine. I then bought 10 of the same. I had problems with all 10. The same you describe.

I cannot record with Recordnow as it gives the error message you describe the moment it starts recording. The disk remains blank.

The funny thing is that Nero now is able to record this brand of media, it fails to perform the end-of-disk at once, whatever that is for a DVD, and ends with an error. 50% of the recorded disks are playable on my yamakawa DVD and all are playable on the PC.

Also tried ULEAD DVD Workshop. Went directly to the finish step, selected to burn from a VIDEO_TS directory and it works fine.

So, my suggestion is: Try different s/w with the media you are using. And, of course, try different media. Once you find a media that works, buy the same media from the same store.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

  6. Echo the above ..........

Using DVD Decrypter then DVD2One then RMN (on 2 layer discs)

I've had no coasters or problems with Samsung Beall DVD-R at about 90p each from SVP (only 2X). Burning with 500a.

  7. Sorry.....just a little frustrated. I never had any problems with my Pioneer.

Anyway, burning data is fundamental and it's the software that is supplied with the drive, so Sony has to have a solution for this. It can't just not work. I am using Verbatim DVD-R's and I have also tried the supplied Sony DVD+RW with the same results. It doesn't make any sense. I am contacting Sony tomorrow and see what they say.

Their drive, their DVD-RW, their supplied Software. Why would this not work?

  8. I'd have to agree with SaSi. I have a Sony drx-500ul. I use to encounter similar problems when trying to use either cdrw discs or incompatible brands.
Once I made the switch to Verbatim dvdrs I no longer have that problem and 34 dvds later, haven't fouled up on one of them. Knock on Wood.

  9. Hi,

I don't know what exactly is wrong with your drive/software but I use the same software /RecordNow DX/ that came with the same drive /Sony DRU500A/X / and there's no problem at all. There's a guide somewhere on this page how to burn with RecordNow DX.
And one more thing. Unless you're copying in hundreds or thousands stick to midprice media /or higher/ it will save you a lot of problems!

    Enjoy!

  10. I am using high quality DVD-Rs. Verbatim is the best I have used, they always work.

The point is that other people are having this problem and I doubt it is the media. Any media I try, it happens. There has to be something that I am missing.

I will be calling Sony today.

    @rhupertgee,

    Any updates on your problems?

Let me give you some comments on Verbatim media.

2 Months ago, I bought a pack of Verbatim DVD+Rs. My Sony had f/w version 1.0d at the time. I destroyed three of them in a row, using Nero for the first 2 and RecordNow DX for the third. I then downloaded and upgraded to f/w 1.0g. Used Nero and tried to simulate a disk write. Simulation was succesful, and then realized that the disk was actually recorded. The mystery was solved 4 days ago in the thread about DVDInfo, where I learnt that DVD+R disks don't support simulation and don't need finalization. The remaining 7 Verbatim DVD+R disks were recorded fine.

I never bought Verbatim again, though.

I sticked with TDK DVD-Rs which were nice and reliable and never had a problem. Using DVDInfo (a tool available through the thread) I noticed that no all TDK media were actually TDK. Some batches I bought actually had MXL as manufacturer ID!!!

I recently ran into a problem getting TDK media - the market appears to have ran out, perhaps because they will finally bring 4x media. I tried a couple of Sentinel. They were fine, worked perfect, and had a manufacturer ID MXL. Thought that it was good news.

I bought 10 of those and couldn't properly record any single one. Some produced the same error you are having in Recordnow but Nero was able to record them but not finalize them. Half of those still played on my yamakawa. Don't know if they will on other players. And, out of curiosity, I again checked the Manufacturer ID on these 10 pieces, and found out they were TDK!!!!!!!

What I'm getting to is that I believe the DVDR market is very immature and these problems will plague us for some more months. It appears that media vendors cannot keep up with production and they subcontract manufacture to others, meaning that you buy brand X and end up with Brand Z which you know is giving you problems.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.
