  1. Long time lurker, third time poster....

    I have scoured this site (and doom9) for an answer to this and haven't had any luck yet. I am currently backing up my Soprano's sets, and have been successful until now...

    I'm currently placing 2 episodes per DVDr by:
    > ripping DVD via DVD-Decrypter
    > running thru DVD2ONE to seperate the Episodes
    > renaming VOBs for the 2nd episode in sequential order from the first
    (example, VTS_01_1.VOB to VTS_01_4.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB to VTS_01_5.VOB, etc...)
    > CREATE IFO's in IFOEdit (using VTS_01_1.VOB)
    > quitting IFOEdit, then reopening to "GET VTS SECTORS"
    > saving/quitting
    > verifying output of final project via PowerDVD

    I know this may be a bit wacky, but this has worked up until now. I'm having problems with Episodes 9 & 10 from Season 2 boxset. When I verify the end product, Episode 10 plays prior to Episode 9. I've tried this 4 times now, and each time is the same result.

    Can anyone provide any guidance as to why these are playing out of order? (also, just for the record, Episodes 11 and 12 are suffering the same problem)

    Thanks in advance for any assistance...

  2. If 10 is playing b4 9, why don't you put 10 first then 9, then 9 will play b4 10 as it should be...

    I don't use the method you have for episodes DVD as I go the hard way with Maestro which is easy to me...

  3. Thanks for the reply...I'll give that a try when I get home... It's so simple it just may work.... (I hope....)

    I'll post results once I try this out. In the meantime, if anyone else has any other suggestions, I'd appreciate alternative solutions, in case the above doesn't work...

    Thank you,

  4. Nice Post, descriptive and exact... So, lets help you out.....

    Your close to your solution. You see the previous Sopranos episodes have worked because the PGC order is the same as the VOB ID order. (HUH?) You are saying. OK, lets review...

    If you open up IFOedit, load up the VTS_01_0.IFO, you will see that PGC1 uses VOB ID 1, and that PGC2 uses VOB ID 2, and so on....

    BUT in the reversed episode disk that isnt so, its PGC1 uses VOB ID 2, or some other number, so what that means in english is that the menu link for episode 1, plays the VOBS with ID 2.

    OK, How do I fix it? You Ask? Just renaming the VOBS as you have found out is USELESS, IFOedit will enternally put them in VOB ID ORDER, not the nameing order. SO, your SOLUTION=CHANGE THE VOB ID'S.

    You can use VOBedit in join clips mode to do this, check out the IFOedit forum for the step by step guides, basically you have to rename the episodes VTS_01_001.vob, VTS_01_002.vob, but in the order you want to view them. This will fix the stream VOB ID and then create a new IFO, and it will be reversed. Hope this makes sense, if not, I will try to give you a step by step tomorrow...Good Night...

  5. Thanks to both of you for replying to my problem....

    Vidhack, I can't thank you enough for the advice. Not only did you explain *why* the VOBs were playing out of order, but you gave me solutions and suggestions. I checked the original Full Disc Rip in IFOEdit, and you were exactly right; the VOB-ID's were 1,2,4,3.

    Just in case anyone else needs a rundown on how I did this, here's what I did to make it work:

    > renamed episode XX as so:
    VTS_01_1.VOB -> VTS_01_001.VOB
    VTS_01_2.VOB -> VTS_01_002.VOB

    > renamed episode ZZ as so:
    VTS_01_1.VOB -> VTS_01_003.VOB
    VTS_01_2.VOB -> VTS_01_004.VOB

    > placed all renamed VOBs into single directory

    > Opened VTS_01_001.VOB in VOBEdit, clicked "join clips",
    saved the new VOBs (starting with VOB-ID "1")

    > used IFOEdit to CREATE NEW IFO, shut down IFOEdit

    > opened IFOEdit again, clicked GET VTS SECTORS, saved resulting file(s)

    Doing this, the episodes play in perfect sequence in PowerDVD.

    ** The only caveat is the chapter points ended up just a bit corrupted. Most of the chapter points are still there, but there are a few instances where there are "extra chapters" thrown in between legitimate chapter stops. Not that big of a deal.. I can live with this. :icon10:

    Thank you again VidHack... I hope to be able to return a favor in the future....

  6. Glad to Help you out,

    But lets get that disk PERFECT! OK? There is a small glitch using VOBedit in joinClips mode, you see, when it jumps to the new vob...Lets say from VTS_01_001.vob to VTS_01_002, during the loading of the file, it inserts a new fake chapter point. As you found out.

    How to fix this. When you ripped the disk down to your hard drive it cut the VOBS at the usual 1024Mb mark, this is typicle, but to fix the problem, simply have it rip the entire VOB ID as 1 file. You will have to have NTFS partition, because the final episode VOB will be about 2.2 Gb. Then do the steps you did and when VOBedit is done joining clips it willcut it up into 1024Mb segments in the final output.

    Now all your Chapters will be EXACT and NO extra ones inserted.

    Enjoy.

    By the way, since you are running alot of files threw VOBedit and IFOedit, how would like a tip to speed it up 25%?

    When IFOedit/VOBedit starts to load and read threw a file, and you see the progress status bar on the screen, just drag it to the bottom of your monitor, so that you only see the top of the window. As long as the window is off the screen, it doesnt have to update the nice graphical display and it rips threw the file FASTER!

    ENJOY!

  8. Thanks! I assumed that the glitch imposed by VOBedit was in relation to the ".001/.002/.003" files, but I didn't think there was a way around it.

    You have helped me accomplish exactly what I was hoping to do with these discs.

    I'll try the IFOedit/VOBedit suggestion (moving the progress bar to the bottom of the screen, below visual) when I start Season 3 tonight.

    Thanks again, VidHack

  9. Hi
    I found this thread and its been a great help with backing up my X-Files DVDs (region 4).
    Just one small problem with the Chapters I'm hoping one of you can help me with. As suggested I'm ripping each episode as a single VOB and this works great. Unfortuantely some episodes have 3 or 4 cells within a specific chapter and these cells are being recognised as chapters in the final DVD.
    Any suggestions on how to remove these unwanted chapters would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

  10. machinations,

    Hello to you. I am glad you can use the info to help you rip those DVD's. I actually have 2 ways off the top of my head to help you solve your problem. BUT, of coarse the FIRST way, which is super simple, isnt available yet. I dont mean to make you upset, its just that the next version of MenuEdit may contain a feature witch will fix this problem. But, I dont know when it will be released. The SECOND way is to manually change the Chapter ID's in the VOB packet streams to match the preceeding chapters, so that VOBedit / IFOedit wont see the fake chapter points, and increment the VOBid, which will create a new FAKE chapter point. To manually change these you would have to know how to use a HEXeditor and have a script that jumps to the CELL ID BYTES and would alter them. (There can be thousands of these bytes).. Put it this way...wait for MenuEdits next Version.
