  1. Does anyone know of any software that will convert an avi 25 fps clip to 29.97 and keep the audio in synch. I heard that MotionPerfect would do it
but it crashes when I try to use it. Here is a link to MotionPerfect if anyone else wants to try it.

  2. You'll need TMPGEnc to do this. I use TMPGEnc Plus v2.59.

1)Near the bottom where it says "Video source:", click on the "Browse"
button and look for your video file.

2)Where it says "Output file name:", click on the "Browse" button.
Select a DIFFERENT FOLDER to save the new converted movie. I call
mine C:\Ripped Movies, but you call it what you like.

3)On the bottom right, click on the "Load" button. Select the type and format of movie that you wish to convert to.

4)When you're finished, click on the "Start" button to start your
    conversion.

    5)Enjoy!!!

Newbie myself but i know for sure that Virtualdub will sort the video in Direct stream copy and Besweet will sort an extracted wav ( from Virtualdub ), i have only even used the 2 seperate inputs for TMPGe to MPEG but AVI should be as easy i would think.

If your TV/display can cope with 25fps (PAL?) then leave it as it is. I have the same issue over here in the UK with NTSC encoded stuff, luckily my DVD and TV can cope so I leave it!

  5. @Rimmer209 and lvlvlv1, i have used TMPG to do the conversion but it is so slow. I wanted to convert to 29.97 fps avi so i could use the fast MainConcept encoder. MainConcept's encoder has a problem converting from 25 fps to 29.97. The video stops before the end of the movie but the audio continues to play. This is a known bug in the MainConcept encoder.

@Jukka, my TV/DVD can handle PAL, but my friends' TV/DVD can not.

bf6239 - fair comment. I'm just lucky enough to have one (have done for 4 years) - just assumed everyone had one nowadays! Good luck with the conversion, I always seem to run into synch problems myself, thats why I don't bother.
