I have some avi with their audio out of synch.
    Gspot info:
    Video Codec: DX50 (DiVX 5.2)
Audio Codec: MPEG-1 LAYER 3 VBR.

In some files the audio starts well and goes gradually out of synch, in others the audio keeps out of synch at the same pace.

I would first try play with vlc media player to see if it works better. You may have some codecs problems.

If still problems then you have to fix it, read https://forum.videohelp.com/topic309224.html or https://forum.videohelp.com/topic347489.html

sounds like a packed bitstream of VBR audio ( mp3 )

i use avidemux , I load the file, it will noify me immedaitely

if it plays OK I save the file with new CBR mp3 stream

OR if i'm going to encode and author a DVD, i save only the audio as an AC3 stream

if its out of sync, I adjust the delay to get it back in sync, then save the audio file

when i encode the file i just do the elementary video, when I author i use the new AC3 audio stream
