I've been trying to convert an mpg file that I extracted from a bin/cue svcd image from PAL to NTSC. I keep getting a "cannot open or file is unsupported" error. I have the mpeg 2 vfapi plug in (m2v.vfp) besides the cyberlink one included in TMPGEnc plus. The mpg file enters into the mpeg tools portion of TMPGEnc for demuxing the sound, so I'm confused why it wont go in under the main window of TMPGEnc. Can anyone help me?

    Hello

You can open the original mpeg file in DVD2AVI and save it as a project file which will give you two files ... a d2v file (with the video) and then a seperate audio file.

Then you should have no problem opening these in TMPGEnc. Also, my having the d2v file, this gives you the option to use an AVS script if need be.

do you have the Ligos mepg2 decoder in the TMPG plug-in list. I did and couldn't get mpeg files to open until I made it a lower priority than the Cyberlink decoder.

OK here is what is happening ---
first I do not have a ligos plug-in
second I extracted the project files in dvd2avi I made sure the dvd2avi plug-in was active and tried to load the d2v into TMPGEnc
Same results "cannot load file or is unsupported. once!! after that I just got an hourglass till I checked in task manager to find TMPGEnc was "not responding". I shut it down and had to reboot bcause everything was rreeaall ssllooww and I kept getting resourse low messages ????
the rub is--- the darn thing plays fine thru PowerDVD

    Hello

Since you want to do a PAL to NTSC conversion I suggest you take a look at these two links:

    http://www.geocities.com/xesdeeni2001/StandardsConversion/

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=160433&highlight=

The first link is to a website that contains information on how to do PAL to NTSC conversions using TMPGEnc.

The second link is a forum thread (from this website) where the issue of PAL to NTSC was brought up and it contains a lot of very good information from both the author of the website in link 1 as well as me

If you read through that website and that thread then I think you should have no problem doing your conversion.

Well ... TMPGEnc should have no problem reading a D2V file. If it cannot then probably something is not set up 100% correctly in your ENVIRONMENTAL SETTINGS. Under OPTIONS go to ENVIRONTMENTAL SETTING ... and you should have a TAB called "VFAPI plug-in" and under that there should be a check marked box that says something like, "DVD2AVI Project File Reader 1.76"

If not then there is a link to a webpage with more information. Sorry but I'm no expert with TMPGEnc as far as these settings go. I know some other people have had this problem. It usually means you just don't have the right "stuff" installed. Wish I could offer more help on this aspect but I cannot due to lack of knowledge. All I know is thta my TMPGEnc has always worked

Another thing you will need is a program called Avisynth which you can download from the DOOM9 website (make sure you get Version 2.08 and not the newer 2.52).

This will allow you to use AVS scripts with TMPGEnc ... for more info on Avisynth and AVS scripts see the VIDEOTOOLS.NET website.

If you can't get TMPGEnc to import the D2V directly then you can do it with an AVS script although as I said once TMPGEnc is setup correctly you should be able to read the D2V file directly into it although you will in some instances want to use an AVS script anyways.

    Good Luck

    P.S.
Avisynth version 2.08 can be found in the "DOWNLOAD" section under "SUPPORT UTILS" ... this is at the DOOM9 website.
