Not good!
Did you flash the firmware with a disc inside?? (Seems like a stupid question but I read it somewhere from people that have the same probs as you have...)
Reflash without any discs present in the A05.
Btw. I'm using the hacked v1.30 firmware and have no probs whatsoever with the red datawrites (Princo media id) at 4speed.
For more info on flashing see :

Just to add.I have also found that in the device manager it still says that it is running as dma enabled, but still not burning at 4x

Pioneer has been releasing firmare versions for good and bad reasons. One of the reasons is because some manufactues are not paying royalties so they are making some cheaper discs not recognizable or downgrading speed. This is what probaably happened.

Thanks jnk76 for the reply.I have just been thinking(Dangerous i know).I got the update from the pioneer site and i think it was an Austrailan site, when on the European site there is no mention of a 1.30 firmware.Could this be the prob!!

It may be the problem but if the discs worked before at 4X then they still will. I personally would load the previous firmare or load the hacked version which should release the lockout on speed.

Did you solve the problem? I have the exact same thing happen to me, but i had already flashed my drive with the hacked firmware and burned over 50 RED DATAWRITE's, now using the same discs the speed has dropped to 2x???. Do you have a cd-writer in your system also? i have and used Nero to make a data CD on a CDRW, then after that my problem started. Could it be Nero? I use RecordNow Max 4.50 to make DVD's

I'm still using the hacked 1.30 fw and no problems with 4speed datawrites(Princo media id)!!
My settings/specs/recommendations :
- DMA if available
- latest VIA 4-in-1 drivers
- Nero 5.5.10.20 with ASPI v2.0.1.59 (dated jan. 29th 2003)
good luck!"Drawn beyond the lines of reason. Push the envelope. Watch it bend." -
Trigger,Yes i have sorted it out.I basically did a full system restore everything off+on again, but this time i haven't put the Stomp DLA program or the px Engine as the drive was already recognised. The firmware that i upgraded with was not the hacked firmware, but the genuine Pioneer 1.30.I think that it has cured the problem.

I'm still having the same problem with the Datawrite RED's, only this time if the comp has been powered off for a few hours then rebooted the first burn will be 4x but thats it all rest are 2x, this is driving me round the twist.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you wiped everything off your hard drive and started again? As i said earlier you have to do a full clean install of everything on your hard drive.

i enabled data sync transfer and DMA and it did the trick for me.
