I looked around a little and could not find anything on this topic. I hope I am not posting this in the wrong forum.
I would like to capture the video and audio from a concert that will be streamed live. You need Media Player 6 to view the webcast. I know I can capture it using the TV out of my video card to a VCR. but is there a way to capture this without going to analog and them back to digital? In other words, is there a way to capture the video/audio directly to a file? I have a nVidia Personal Cimena capture card.
Thanks,

There is (or was) a program called Streambox VCR that captures Real Media and Windows streaming media formats. The author stopped making it in 1999 when Real Networks obtained an injunction against him.
You can still find old versions of Streambox VCR[http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_tools/streambox_vcr.cfm] at sites like this. Unfortunately, Streambox VCR doesn't work with all streams. When your concert starts playing, fire up Streambox during opening commercials or whatever to test it. If it doesn't start recording, you could always try a program like SnagIt.
[http://www.techsmith.com/products/snagit/ ]SnagIt is a screen capture tool that records anything - video, audio, screenshots, even record yourself playing DirectX games. I haven't used it, but I hear that the picture quality isn't as good as the original file (which you would get from Streambox VCR). -
There was also a freeware program call "recordasf", you have to know the url/link wheres its being played from, but if its live it will capture it directly and if its a all-ready-recorded-file straming playback from a site it will capture it as fast as your interent connection is. Its kinda tricky to use though but do a search for "recordasf"

I downloaded RecordASF and Streambox VCR and have both apps working. Now I have another question. Is it possible to crack the Digital Right Management in Windows Media Player?
Thanks -
I know of no one who has had luck with digital rights management yet... here is some help on streambox and asfrecorder
1) download SBVCR 3.1 and the Flying Ranchy Stealh Mulder Crack (the latest one) and URLSnooper available here or if the links are dead at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzzinhornetz2001
(to get access to yahoo groups, just fill in the 1min form then join that group, then go to the files section and it's all there ...and MORE!)
2) Install everything. (hopefully you are running Win98, cause any problems you run into with WinME, or Win2000, or WinXP I can't help you with)
3) Go the webpage where the link to the Streaming Media is (the link that when you click on it, opens up RealPlayer or WinMediaPlayer) but don't click it yet! Launch URLSnooper
4) In URLSNooper click on the Search TAB, then click SNIFF NETWORK button... wait a few seconds. Now go back to your InternetExplorer (or whatever browser you use) and click on the link to launch the video in Realplayer or WMP. Wait until the video has started playing... (that is any little crappy commercials, or short webpage identification has played, and the actually video you want has started to play.)
5) Go back to URLSnooper, and click STOP SEARCH button. You can stop WMP or realplayer now also.
6) In URLSNooper, on that SERACH TAB under the sniff and stop buttons is a long list of crap. You need to slowly scroll thru that list, looking for URLs that start with stuff like "mms://**.asf" or "rtsp://**.rm" or "http://**.wmv" or any combination starting with mms:// http:// rtsp:// and ending in .rm .asf .wmv .ram .mpg .avi .mov
You see, there are several video formats which end in different extensions such as .asf .wmv .rm .ram .mov .mpg .mpeg .avi
You need be familiar with these endings. Memorize them!
So in URLSnooper, that list of URLs could have things such as, but not limited to:
"http://**.asf" "http://**.wmv" "mms://**.asf" "mms://**.wmv" "rtsp://**.rm" "rtsp://**.ram" "http://**.mov"
7) Now that you've identified URL or a few of them which seem to match that format of xxx:// something .**
you need to know which one is right URL. (it's usually the first one you come across but to be sure, right click on that URl in URLSnooper list and go LAUNCH URL. Hopefully WMP, RealPlayer, or QUICKtime player will successfully open up and play the video you wanted. If not keep going down the list until you get the right address to the video.
8) Now that you've found the "real" link (see streaming websites hide the real address behing a bunch of crap to stop you from saving the videos to your harddrive), again right click on it and choose COPY TO CLIPBOARD.
9) Launch StreamBoxVCR and click on the button at the top of the screen that has a GLOBE WITH A LITTLE YELLOW CHAIN across it (this button is 3rd from the left, directly below the word download on the top toolbar) A NEW ITEM WINDOW pops up.
10) Right Click in the location empty bar and click PASTE. Now the URL is pasted in the location bar. Type a place you want the file saved on your computer in the DESTINATION bar, eg. C:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP, and finally click OK.
11) The file should start downloading... if nothing happens for a long time, look at the right frame/window of STREAMboxVCR and read what it says... if says some kind of error or timeout, you might have done something wrong, the link may not be recordable, or someother problem has occured.
12) Hopefully the file finishes to save. Then click on it and watch and enjoy. To clear finished downloads from your streambox screen Click on the file, and click the RedCircle with the red X in it. And just experiment with the butttons to see what they do.
13) FOr Live streams, like live news, live bigbrother type shows, etc. I recommend ASFRecorder instead of Streambox, as the ASFRec. will make the video seekable(fast-forward-able) whereas SBVCR won't. Use URLSnooper again to get the REAL address of the video, and paste it in ASFRecorder.
14) ASFRecorder can be found here also
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzzinhornetz2001
15) Now go practice on this site http://www.nakednews.com
NOTE!!! streams which require a password/username to access WILL NEVER EVER EVER RECORD! Don't know why, but that is the case! -
Thanks buzzinhornets,
I was able to download the file and watch it several times. I got it on VHS using TV out and actually made a digital copy of the audio on DAT.
However, now that the 48 hour period is over, the file no longer plays. I wish someone would crack the DRM!!! -
is there a way to capture streams on sites that does use login/password?
some of the sites i visit will start streaming and when you capture the url it has mms://xxxxxxxxxxx/blah.asf?somenumber
like they are using some type of sessions that only stream once
if there is a way to capture it please let me know
Thanks -
I can't get url sniffer to work with my adapters or whatever, what can i do, is there an update that i don't know about??????
PLEASE help!!!
