  1. Have always wondered how to go about this ... atm, I have some full DVDs backed up on my HDD as ISOs. I would like to remove the menus and then transcode using IC. I assume I would have to use IFOedit like the 'old days' but wasn't sure exactly. Any other way to do this using just IC? If not, can go the IFOedit route if someone can guide me along.

    TIA

  2. I rip the main movie files with DVD Decryptor (using the file mode). Then I use freeware DVDToolbox to remove the extra titles, audios, and subtiltes. I only keep the main English AC3 audio and the English subtilte. Then depnding on the size of the remaining files, I use either DVD2One or, IC. While using DVDToolbox, you can see the size of remaining stuff as you remove stuff. So, if the remaining stuff is less than say 5.5 to 5 GB, then I use DVD2One. Typically it would take about 15 minutes. For large projects, I use IC, which would typically take about one hour using the latest update.

  3. IFOEdit, DVDToolbox and DVDShrink (set compression to zero) seem to be the favorite ways to strip out unwanted extras. Personally I pretty much always use IFOEdit, but DVDToolbox has some nice extra features too.

Once you have your stripped VIDEO_TS folder you can either burn it to DVDR (if less than 4.7GB) or if still to big transcode/re-encode.

  4. Thanks for the replies.

I figured I had to strip out the menu using IFOedit, had hoped there was another way. oh well. hehe

for the past few months, I have been using DVD2One, but my HDD has started to fill with 2.5 hour+ movies that i don't trust with DVD2One (after some testing) so gonna try to rip out the menus and use IC on them. So far, I have only used IC for full rips (movie, extras and menu), of which I have only done 2.

  5. i also use the same approach stated y falberni.

for some movies, the end credits take too much space. e.g. Superman's credits take up 650 MB!!!!

so, i use DVDDecrypter in IFO mode and delete un-needed chapters before using DVDToolbox to remove unwanted audio & subtitle. I then use DVD2One or IC depending on the size of the movie.

I've never used DVD Toolbox but I can certainly vouch for DVD Shrink using the re-author method. It also enables you to crop the end credits and even the front intro screens to reduce the size for even higher quality transcoding. On a couple of occasions this has enabled me to fit the whole movie without any transcoding just by cropping end credits and/or intro screens.

I move the ISO to my linux box and mount the ISO as a hard drive then I
can use Pinnacle IC to process the movie(remove menus and such). I beleve their also is a utilty to make the ISO look like a directory on Windows but I don't know the name of it.

  8. I do this sometime.

Use DVDShrink to ReAuthor DVD and use IC7 to compress those files.. work great !

I usuly put a DTS or THX trailler before the movie

  9. Courtrrb - I believe you are thinking of "daemon tools" which would allow you to mount the ISO image file. I also mostly rip the whole DVD as an ISO image and then mount and edit as needed (often days/wks latter). Much easier to store and work with then several VIDEO_TS folders.

  10. I have downloaded and have tested out pretty much every dvd tool out there. If you want just the movie less the menus and bonus junk, I suggest you get DVD2One. It is simple and fast.
