_PLEASE See Below For VDub Problem, thanks_

Hi there, I'm a bit of of newb...so go easy
Of all the capturing software I tried only Ulead MovieFactory 2 gave me perfect audio sync & good sound quality(I tried almost every type of software). I captd. in DVD NTSC VBR(720x480)8000kbps. I figured why not the highest settings if the PC can handle it, and it would be quicker to burn if I need no converting. It looks great on the PC, but when I burned it, it looked a little "jittery" at times on my TV. So here are my questions.
    1. Is the setting I used (DVD NTSC VBR(720x480)8000kbps) overkill?
    2. Should I capt. in AVI or some other file type or setting?
    3. What are the differneces in MPEG Audio setting between LPCM(stereo) and MPEG Audio(joint stereo) ?
Any other general tips are welcome also. I'm capturing from Satellite source, and AUDIO & VIDEO of the highest quality are a must as long as I can get a stable picture on a TV.

-I hope I don't grilled for asking dumb stuff
I love this site more than words can express, and I appreciate all the help & suggestions.
    thanks

If you like the quality of the capture, I suggest you keep doing it. Now how did you burn it, and what brand of disk were you using and at what speed?

I burned it in Nero 5.5.10.28, after the project was saved to the VIDEO/AUDIO_TS folders w/Movie Factory, on some 2x Memorex DVD-R. I think quality was exceptional, but I'm willing to trade off a little bit quality for picture jitter correction.

I'm not sure what benefit you would see using 8000VBR over CBR as 8000kpbs is the max for dvd output.
The only time I got jittering was when I had a field box checked in my codec options.
Once I unchecked it it was perfect.
I doubt it's anything to do with the settings you've specified.
I capture to avi with thePicVideo MJPEG codec at quality 19/20 (no difference for me compared to 20/20 but a third of the file size) using Virtualdub.
I edit with Pinnacle Studio 8, use TMPGEnc to encode at around VBR6000kbps to mpeg2 and author with Ulead Movie Factory 1.0.
    Simple

OK, I'm going to give VD another go. I found out that my files looked out of sync ONLY when I played them back in Win.Media Player(crap).

So, I had a test run in VD and I can only captr. in "compatibility mode", can only capture in regular "capture mode" for about 1 second...what's the deal, what is the difference between the two?

The only time I got jittering was when I had a field box checked in my codec options.
So Silky, I'm going to try your method, when I look in the codec options I see "2 fields if more than 240 lines". Is this the box I should un-check?

    thanks for the help

Yep, that's the exact same one that worked for me.
    Untick it.
I had this issue for ages, so if it works you'll be the first I've helped.
Please report back, I knew there couldn't just be me suffering

    Wow, I'm quoting MYSELF!
So, like it says, I can't capture in noraml capture for more than 1 second...any ideas? ...anyone?

Also, silky, what size did you capture in? I plan on capturing in 720x480. I really want the highest quality possible. Is there anything else I can do to insure that I get highest quality?
    thanks

Instead of a new thread...I just changed the subject

So, there it is. I can't get VirtualDub to "normal"capture for more than 1 second. Captures plenty in "compatibility" mode. Any thoughts?
_Also, anyone care to expound on the differences between the two modes?

One more thing. I think I read another post where the video this person captured is a little un-stable when the camera pans(burnt to DVD I believe)...sounds like my original dilema!

Maybe it applies, maybe it doesn't...not sure.
